Minor leak on return line, getting on my nerves.

Bought some correct 11/32 online from a nice guy recommended by this forum here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/For-Mopars-Power-Steering-Return-Hose-Clamps-11-32-340-440-426-Hemi-318-383/263014716126?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649.

Line came with 2 correct clamps and he was nice enough to toss in a few o-rings just for the asking. Installed the new hose which fit nice and snug on both ends with the provided clamps. Turned the car over and moved the wheel side to side, the power steering unit side still leaked.. the pump side was fine. Tried re-seating a few times with no success, still leaked. Removed the fitting and inspected it, seems fine. Took the stock clamp off and installed adjustable type, was finally able to get it tight enough to not leak... but had to deform the heck outta the hose. Photo here:

Would not think I'd need to apply that much clamping force on a return line, cant be that much pressure. The hose seemed right but I'm beginning to wonder. Car was originally a 318 and now has 360 in it. Most of the return hose fitting photos I have seen have about a 45 degree angle to them like this example:

Mine is straight off the power steering unit. Am I using the wrong hose still maybe? Seemed correct fit on both ends. Maybe I'm over thinking it... just seems odd to have to clamp that much force to keep a return line from leaking. Thoughts?

I agree with the angled fitting & housing , most I have seen are like that ,
Is there any damage to the tapered end on the metal fitting , a small scar or groove could create a leak past the larger diameter area on the fitting

:iagree:  I've not had good luck with those stock reproduction clamps.  I have left them on for looks, but put good clamps on too so the leaks stop.

Removed and inspected it yesterday... seems fine.

I'll circle back around in a few weeks to see how the hose is holding up.

just a thought , I have seen it before if there is damage to the large end it can bypass
