One more point to add: the vacuum pump removed any "feel" with my brake pedal.  Before adding the pump, I was effectively running manual brakes so resistance to pedal movement increased when I pushed harder. With the pump running, the brake pedal can be bottomed out with hardly any resistance.  Not terrible, just different.
