Steering Box - I'm sure this has been asked already

Sorry everyone if I am repeating this subject. I searched for threads but just confused myself more. My steering is loose. It appears the steering box has an issue. The main shaft that comes out to control the tie rods moves back and forth. Where are the best options to for a steering box... economical. I would like to have a 12:1 ratio since I don't have power steering. Does that just incorporate a new arm?

A stage three Firm Feel or Steer'n'Gear box. For lower shipping costs, If you are on the west side of the continent, Firm Feel. If you are on the east side of the continent, Steer'n'Gear.
I think they are about $350 bucks? After refundable core.

Agree.  Although if you have a big block with stock exhaust manifolds, the fast ratio idler arm will likely (just barely) hit the exhaust and the exhaust will either need to be tapped in or cut and modified a bit (passenger side only).

If you dont have power steering and you change the ratio to 12:1 then just keep in mind it will be a little more difficult to steer in the parking lot.  But it will probably feel really nice going down a twisty road.  But what in life isn't a trade-off.

Chrysler used to make a quick ratio gear for the inside of a manual box but you'll never find one. You can put on a longer pitman arm to make it steer faster but you'll have to find a better box or have yours rebuilt.

Is it worth having mine rebuilt or is it better to just buy a Firm Feel or Borgeson? It would be quicker, I'm guessing to buy one.

Most places will require a core except Borgeson .

Thanks for the info. Good point about Borgeson but I guess either way it has to come out anyway.

The borgeson is lighter but I think you need to modify the steering column to mate up with it. Not sure though. Someone here that has done the job can confirm/deny.
