I was thinking about using wheel bearing grease, but I'm thinking it'll act like hot butter when it's hot and just make a mess.

Any recommendations?

That's what I used, that steering coupler won't get anywhere near as hot as wheel bearings.

You can use any grease. Doesn't have to be anything special. Very little movement.

The only way it would get very hot is if it is close to a header pipe , wheel brg grease is what I have used .
