Tilt steering column options?

I love my new Viper/Neon seats and I`ve shortened my crush can for the steering wheel but with the old Grant smaller Tuff wheel repro I have to look down to see my gages, I`d also like just a bit more leg  room between the seat and bottom of the wheel. What options are there for a tilt column -  I see some have the Ididit but are there any factory ones out of a different body style I could convert to an E-body or other good options. Has anyone mover the factory column up a bit an is there even any room to do that as I know the gage cluster is close?

OK, doing a little more searching on here it looks like Shelbydog used a Cordoba tilt column, I`m going to look into that.

When you shorten the crush can it makes the steering wheel closer to you knees. I swapped out my crush can for a B body one (which is shorter) and it made the wheel much lower. If possible keep the original crush can and try and move the seat back. My 2 cents.

All I can say is aside from the GM key and the six month wait to get it,  I dig my IDidIt column.

I know it's a small thing...but the GM key would really bug me.....

Oh it definitely bugs me, but I can get over it.

Working on the Dakota Digital gauges a little today. Wiring isn't any fun.

Here's a pics of the wheel tilted out of my way.

Depends on what you want...direct bolt in with adapters already created, get a commercially available unit like Ididit.  Want to cut and fit and fab to make it work, find a salvage yard unit.

I grabbed a tilt/telescope column out of an 80s Imperial I came across many decades ago. Still haven't got around to fitting it up.

It would be nice to have a bolt in unit but no way would have a GM key for my Mopar.   :barf:  Unfortunately the only salvage yard that has old stuff left around here just got crushed out so I`ll have to find a used one online.

The key cylinders themselves are not very complex animals. They are a tube with the companies internals and a rotating tab to integrates with the columns mechanical pieces. If the GM key really bothers you, swap it out for a late 70s Chrysler column mounted lock cylinder with a matching Mopar key.

Yeah I tried that, it wouldn't quite fit, the cylinder would go in and function but wouldn't lock into the column properly, it was about a 1/16th of an inch too long. I figured I'd deal with it for now, I just dropped off my trunk / glove compartment locks at the locksmith to be rekeyed the same as the doors so I can get back down to two keys.

True, I went with IDidIt for quality / safety. Not sure if Flaming River has updated their column yet, IDidIt is segmented to collapse like a modern steering column in the event of an impact. It bolted right in and with the proper adapter linked right to the Borgeson Steering Box.

Rob isn't here that often I don't think, but if you tag him he'll get an email and probably answer any questions you have about how he did the conversion.   cc.com used to have a pdf or something in the archive section I think?
