What width/offset and tires can I stuff under it?

My car came with 15" American Racing Torque Thrust D's in a gray spoke.

I love the look, but the rear wheels offset sticks out too far and I'm getting a lathe effect on the tires from hitting the quarters.

My car is bone stock on the 8 3/4 rear, leafs, ect.

Is there a known recipe for stuffing some wide wheels and rubber all around?

My searches came up with nothing.
I'm still trying to figure this site out on mobile web.

Mobil Web is killing me.   Lol.

Do you know the backspace on your current set?  I'm guessing you have 15x8 with 3.75 backspace, which isn't nearly enough. You need to pull the tires inboard more. AMR does make a grey spoke Torq Thrust in 15x8 with 4.5 backspace that would pull them in an extra 3/4". that plus a rolling of the lip of the wheel opening would help eliminate tire interference.

If that is still an E-body rear end the plan is to find a 66-67 B-body housing and axles (which are slightly narrower and mount the springs closer together) and bolt that in along with an offset hangar and shackle kit from Dr. Diff. 1Wild R/T on this forum made his own and posted within the last week. This mod would make your current wheels usable. If you need more room it involves more work.

That sounds like too much of a project and the likelihood of finding a 2 year housing seems like I'd be better off looking into lottery tickets.  [emoji12] [emoji12] [emoji12]

Ah, okay. Not sure what will be easier or cheaper, let us know what it is.

I'm running 15x8 4 1/2" backspace wheel on the rear with 275 60 R15 tire,  fits good no rubbing anywhere.

Has anyone ever ran a 10 wide on say...    5"bs?

I have 10" wide with 5" backsapce underneath mine now. But I also have the 1" spring kit and the 66-67 B body housing mentioned above.  The same could be possible with a  68-70 housing and 5.5" backspace.  Either of these is actually a bolt in deal. The point of the 1" kit and the B body housing is that they all bolt together with no welding required. You can move the springs in 1" and keep the original E housing, but then you need to weld on new perches and step up the backspace to 6"

I've sometimes wondered about making longer upper and lower control arms and using a 72-74 station wagon housing to allow the use of  large positive offset wheels. This would not have the traditional  dish look, but the positive offset would improve front scrub radius some.

So which cars had the narrower rear end?

This is exactly what I would do , using DR Diff offset hangars & B body diff bolts right in & will move the existing wheels in the correct amount to work so you do not need new wheels or tires , there are a number of ways to do this , if you find a good housing & axles you can use your current gear set / 3rd member in a different housing , or find a complete unit rear diff  or have one built such as a narrowed 8 3/4 housing or build a complete Dana 60

I will make a note here. Yes they fit with this setup but after replacing both rear quarters (AMD) it looks like my inner lip will need to be "adjusted - most likely cut not rolled" so there is no rubbing. They fit but are far too close for my liking.

I just recently installed a b body axle in my 72.  I have designed my own kit which is simple to install and moves springs in 1 inch.  They come with front spring brackets, offset shackles, and energy suspension bushings.  Perches and ubolts are separate depending on which axle you use.  you can use your stock springs.  Some kits require SS springs {shorter}

If I can find a 66-67 B body housing, can I use my stock Cuda's axles in the B body housing or will they be too long?
I'm still on the hunt for a rear end..
