Testing out the US Car Tool car lifting tool.
Lifts plenty high with the rear on ramp/blocks.
6.1 and 727 are on a US Car Tool K-Member cart.
Didn't have a transmission mount and none at the local parts store.
Amazon Prime is on it's way!

October 12th 2019

Rolled the Hemi across the patio and down the driveway and under the waiting 69 Fastback for the first test fitting.
Went well!
Several firsts for us but the QA1 K-Member bolted right up with a little bit of coaxing...
The 727 Cross member bolted right up.
Lots to test fit and mock up and then take it back out before final paint.
AC Plumbing
Heater Plumbing
CAI Fab and fit
Radiator and plumbing
Steering
All the front suspension
Having never done any of this before, I'm taking my time and thinking about what next...
Going to have to drill and cut holes for the Classic auto Air but am thinking of ways to hide as much of the plumbing as possible...

Looks right at home. Yes, it is very close to the passenger inner fender...

November 24 2019
Neon SRT4 Seats sitting in there just to get a look.
Need Seat Bases

At this point, Manual Reverse Valve Body 727 + GV OD was still the plan... That however would change...

I'm sure it must just be me...
Man I sure struggled trying to figure out how to put the glove box door and hinge back together in the dash...
Then when I finally got it, couldn't figure out why I struggled with it so much.
Anyway, it's done.
Fit the Dash frame in place and the Classic Auto Air Heater/AC Box is mocked up in place.

Little by little. Not a lot of progress but it all has to get done.

Ididit tilt steering column arrived today. :)
Still need the EPAS kit, then can start work on the steering.
Will have to cut the steering column down to attach the EPAS electric motor and figure out mounting the column with the motor under the dash.
May try to graft the old column bracket to the new column if it will work.

Shifting Gears...

New plan. 8HP70 8-speed
They are bad ass. Will be some surgery involved but the final product will be well worth the effort.

Ordered this Ididit Tilt column and EPAS Performance Electric Power Assisted Steering Kit for the Barracuda.
Have to figure out what steering wheel, adapter and horn button we want to use.
Need to get the seats located and mounted and figure out the correct location, length, angle, etc.
Neon SRT4 Seats need to have some modified brackets made up for them.

Got a Challenger Console off of EBay
Will try to fit it with the SRT4 seats and new tunnel...

EPAS Electric Power Assisted Steering for the 69 Barracuda
Will be mated to an Ididit Tilt Steering Column, Momo Steering wheel and Paddle Shifters.

Had to make a plate to go on the firewall and relocate the opening to where the steering shaft will clear everything. Used the original firewall steering column plate as a template and made the new with 3mm thick plate aluminum.
Cut it out on my bench router table with a trim bit from Harbor Freight. Worked great.

A 3/4" Double "D" and 1" Double "D", a 3/4" 36 spline to 3/4" DD U-Joint, a 3/4" DD to 1" DD U-Joint, a 1" Bearing at the firewall. Collapsible Steering Shaft with Electric Power Assisted Steering.

Now to shorten and modify the Ididit Tilt Column to fit.

Really happy with the results so far.
Ididit says they will disassemble, cut the column and inner steering shaft down to my measurements for $100.00 + shipping and I can maintain the warranty.
Seems worth it to me.

A few more pictures...
The EPAS kit came with a Plate for the firewall but I think they have "Early A" for all the A-Body Barracudas and not correct for 67-69 Barracudas. So I made my own.
Cut down the stock column for all the test fitting.

Cutting my new firewall plate with my little benchtop router table.

Running Total $42,705.12

Each item's price is included in my excel workbook but doesn't copy paste well...
~200 separate line items!
Also a lot of items that were trial/test and then not used so removed... Some of the items listed above may also end up not being used because we found something we liked "Better" or just changed our minds... Like the Pat Blais Built, Zero Mile, RVB, Manual Shift 727 w/Chrysler Stall Converter $1859.97 + Core. Being replaced with a 2018 8HP70 8-Speed...
Ha! There's another $800 ($500 + $300 Shipping from Texas) to add to my list - 8HP70 Trans with Torque Converter.
Oh, and the US Car Tool Trans Tunnel $649 and the US Car Tool Trans Cross Member for 8HP $295.
Still need to add the Sound German Automotive PCS (Powertrain Control System) $1000 and PCS Paddle Shifter $550

Make that $45,499.12 and counting...

This is why you should never build one and never ever keep track of how much you spent...
Original Car Purchase Price, Bodywork, Paint and Labor not included...
There are more than a few items I didn't add to the list because sometimes I'm just too lazy...

Did I mention this will be my kid's car when finished? Call me crazy, I know.
He will be on the hook for 50% of the total cost. I think he's getting a pretty good deal.
He paid for the 6.1 and a few other items along the way but he is still in school and this past summer he was not able to work his summer job of the previous 3 years due to Covid-19

Currently in the process of making mounting brackets for the AC Condenser.
They are the Aluminum pieces test fitted at the top and bottom.
After I have the condenser located I can route the AC plumbing.
Going to hide the lines as much as possible. Some will go between the inner and outer fender.

Happy New Year!

Got the AC Condenser where I want it and got a start on the plumbing.

First to make a hole for a 90* elbow to go through.
Test fitting with rubber lines that were included with the kit before making up the braided stainless lines that will be in the Engine Compartment.
Hard lines will run between the inner and outer fender.

Need to enlarge the hole a little bit more but need a new big step bit.
Will put a large rubber grommet in the hole after I enlarge it a little more.

O-Ring Female to O-Ring Male Elbow on the outside to a 90* down with service port inside.

Thought about a bulkhead in the core support but I'm liking how this is working out.

Next will be a flex line to a bulkhead through the inner fender.

Hydraulic Punch Driver Kit from HF.
First time using it. Got to admit, this thing works great.

1/8" thick core support, no problem. Nice clean hole. Forget the Step Bit.

Only $75 with the 25% off coupon 38183528

Made some more holes today. I'm really liking the Hydraulic Hole Punch Driver.
First for the Heater Lines. Drill Pilot holes first.

Then punch them out.
What it looks like from the inside.

A few pumps of the handle...

And presto... we have hole!

The back side of the heater lines Bulkhead.

Leaving the inside heater line plumbing for later, I moved on to Coolant Line Bulkhead install.
Same process but had to flatten the little channel for the bulkhead plate. I used the Hydraulic ram with 2 flat surfaces facing each other to flatten it out. I'm liking this tool more and more. Wonder what else I can think of using it for? I got some dimple dies to use with it but no dimple plans yet... Anyway, here are the coolant bulkhead fittings installed.

Next up... bend these to fit as needed.
Should be interesting. The -10 will not need much bending but the -6 line will be going all the way forward and around the corner in front of the core support to the Dryer.
Will start it at the dryer being sure to put enough bends to make a nice fit.
The -10 line will stop short of the core support and connect to a 90* bulkhead fitting.
The 90* fitting can go right where the -10 line ends...

Spent some more time on the heater and A/C lines on the inside.
Just test fitting so far.

I'll make a little "L" bracket to mouth the Heater Hose Valve to the bottom of the cowl.
Just sitting there loose right now.

January 9 2021

Made my first ever A/C Hardline. Well I should say I bent my first Hardline.
Working from the From Dryer to the bulkhead on the firewall in the inner fender.
Got to say that it really turned out nice if I do say myself...
Had to creatively bend it to keep it from being too long. I used a length of leftover copper tubing to do a mockup first then the real thing. A little nerve racking but made it through.
Only bought the one 60" -6AN Female to Female line so I only had one chance to make it right or screw it up...
The 90* down and then 180* up was to take about 3" of length out or it would have been too long.
It was the best way I could think of to consume some of the excess length...

I thought about putting a couple 90* bends in this long straight side instead of the 90* down + 180* in the front to take up some of the extra length but I'm happy I did it the way I did.

Here is a shot that shows the whole line from end to end.
Have a couple ideas of how I will shield the lines from damage from road debris inside the wheel well.
Maybe slide a conduit over then fill with expanding foam insulation...
A chunk of heavy duty hose right there on the 90* bend and a few mounting clamps strategically placed along the length.

One Hardline down and one to go.
The -10AN hardline will be much easier. Going to be pretty much just a shorter straight shot to a 90* fitting to a bulkhead fitting through the side of the inner fender.
They won't follow exactly the same path but I'm going for functionality over looks and no one will see them once the fender is on.
I did consider making a long -10AN hardline following the -6 but the -10 is a lot harder to bend small tight bends.
I should be able to get the -10 line done tomorrow.
Once I have the Hardline done the Bulkhead will be located and I'll make up a rubber -10 line from the compressor to the Bulkhead.
Rubber lines for test fitting but the finished A/C soft lines will be Stainless Steel Braided lines.
Soft lines in the passenger compartment will be rubber though.

Pure joy that I was able to bend this to fit in one try!!!

I do have a plan to protect the lines in the inner fender from road debris...
You will just have to trust me on that.

January 10 2021

Installed the Bulkhead fitting through the inner fender, made up a temp -10 rubber line to go from the compressor to the bulkhead.

Both will be braided stainless but I'm using the rubber lines for mockup first.

I used my router to make a single bulkhead plate out of aluminum and just rattle canned it black for now.
Backed it up on the other side with a large galvanized washer.

Adapters for Male -10AN O-Ring to -10AN Male 37*
These will convert the Bulkhead and Hard Line Male -10AN O-Ring fittings to 37* fittings to mate up with the black 90* elbow that is -10AN 37*
I couldn't find a 90* elbow fitting that is Female -10AN O-Ring to Female -10AN O-Ring... If I could have found one I would have used it.
These should work fine though.

I will clean the originals up and will end up using 4 of them for the Ball/Socket mating for the 6.1 half covers. Going to hang on to the rest since they are really expensive to replace.

Tried a couple different solutions but think I like this one best.

M6 Stainless Steel Allen Hex - 6 x 35mm together with
M6 Black Anodized Aluminum Conical Countersunk Washers
The Washers are 5mm tall and 25mm diameter with a 6mm hole

Still using the thick rubber washer/spacers off of the original hardware.
The Aluminum washer is just a bit larger diameter than the rubber and are a cone shape on top.

If you have done a G3 Hemi in an A-Body, you know how tight it is to the passenger side inner fender.
These give a little more clearance to the inner fender at the shock tower on the passenger side.

I tried it with Black Oxide instead of Stainless Steel too but I like the contrast of the stainless steel against the black better.

Looks like this.

Clearance to the passenger inner fender.
Here is a tip.
Remove the long factory hardware before installing or removing your G3 in your A-Body Mopar
The paint on your passenger inner fender will thank you.

Long 4mm Hex Key Allen Wrench here.
Everywhere else I could use a 4mm Allen socket on a 3/8 drive ratchet and extension...

Better angle. Not quite as close as it looks in the picture above.
But it is close...

Yup, I definitely like this better.

These don't look bad when they are new and these definitely need to be freshened up.
I'll freshen them all up and use 4 for the half covers and the rest will get squirreled away.

Won't see these with the half covers on but they definitely look better now.
2 for each side next to the intake for the ball sockets that the half covers mate to.
The little things need to get done too.
Small steps in the right direction also get you closer to where you are going...

For comparison of factory to my replacement

Using Corbeau Seat Bases with Neon SRT4 seats.
Cut the SRT4 mounting brackets off with an angle grinder, drilled and bolted the seats to the brackets. Bolted them to the floor with the US Car tool perimeter tunnel just sitting in there and the Challenger Console.

Tried a pair of Planted Technology seat bases for E-Body, thinking I could make them work but decided to try Corbeau A-Body bases instead.
The Corbeau mounting holes lined up with the Barracuda mounting holes perfectly.

Will be selling the Planted Technology E-Body seat bases.

These are the ones I used. Ordered through Summit.

Noticed some of the pictures were not showing in a few of my earlier posts and fixed some of those links.
Also added several updates to the project to bring this thread up to date from 2018 to today.

:wrenching:
