@303 Mopar

Thanks for the info!

I already have the engine listed (Picture in the first post), sorry for the confusion about that (next build I'll try a lunati cam).

Headers: I have the TTI 2" headers/3.5" collectors, that is what TTI recommended for my build. Unfortunately they barely hit my power steering pump, so I'll likely contact firmfeel as you suggested and might have to just get a manual steering box for clearance.

Ignition - With the firecore RTR, what ignition box did you run?

fuel pump - Can you provide a part number or link to the exact pump you are talking about? I searched Mallory red and it came up with 10 different pumps, lol.

Carb - I've heard lots of different people like proform carbs, so I will call them and ask them if the 850 you suggested would be a good fit. Whats the difference between their race carbs and street carbs?

I will also need an oil pump as well. I've heard just a regular one is good, and to not get a high volume one.

On a side note I was also looking at QA1's front suspension package (Drag racing). Kind of spendy but it comes in a kit (I like kits, lol) with a tubular K-frame, shocks, control arms and more. I might consider getting that too.

@nsmall

My budget for my parts right now is around 9k for this year. I agree on the overall spending. I have spent far more than I thought I would. But the closer it gets the happier I get! So by the time I get to the point where I can boil the tires, if that's the only thing I need and it's running, I'll be happy! lol

@MoparDave

So Dave do you mostly just sell OE stuff then?

MoparDave

@MoparJunkie
Mostly but I can get just about anything.

Unfortunately they barely hit my power steering pump, so I'll likely contact firmfeel as you suggested and might have to just get a manual steering box for clearance.  - The 2" may be your issue as I have only run the 1 7/8" on 3 different cars now and they all fit.

Ignition - With the firecore RTR, what ignition box did you run? - You do not need an ignition box.  Part of the beauty of an RTR distributor, and it cleans up the engine bay.

fuel pump - Can you provide a part number or link to the exact pump you are talking about? I searched Mallory red and it came up with 10 different pumps, lol. - It is the Mallory 4150 pump and is by far the quietest pump out there.  [ebay]311880314668

Carb - I've heard lots of different people like proform carbs, so I will call them and ask them if the 850 you suggested would be a good fit. Whats the difference between their race carbs and street carbs? - The street carb does not have a choke and I believe they are jetted different.

I might consider getting that too.  - I have stock K members on all my cars so I can't comment on the tubular k frame or QA1 parts. I added Hotchkis shocks, front/rear sway bars and t-bars to my Cuda and love it.  I also have ran Bilstein shocks and they are the best bang for your buck.  I would recommend subframe connectors (I just added steel tubes) and big t-bars, like 1.10's. Hotchkis and PST has the bigger bars.

@303 Mopar

Nice engine!!

Headers - I agree I'm barely hitting and I'd say it's that 1/8" difference, so I will likely get a manual steering box to try and make more room if I can. TTI recommended these headers for my setup, so I will have to find a way to work with them.

Fuel pump - Thanks for the info on the Mallory 4150, it says you have to run a regulator as well. Any recommendations on that? Not sure if there is a full kit I can buy, or I can just piece whatever I need for a electronic fuel pump conversion together. But I do want a quiet pump so that's great!

Carb - I called Proform and based on my setup they recommend a race series 950 CFM #67304. They said the only difference in the street vs race is that the street carb will run better in colder weather (30 degrees or so). I will only be running my car in nice weather so the 950 is right up my alley.

Suspension - I don't want to get too crazy with spending on suspension since I am building a 1/4 mile car and not a road race car. So I will look into the Bilsteins, T-bars, and try not to go overboard with suspension stuff. Maybe a nice polyurethane bushing kit perhaps. I already have a US car tools stiffening kit welded in my car.

Thanks for the help! I will start putting a list together (given your helpful info) starting with stuff I need to get the engine running and then move to suspension after that. I'll have to see what I can order from Dave, so far all I can think of is a radiator, but there might be more he can get for me.

If anyone else has any more info please let me know. I think I will start ordering parts tomorrow  :yes:

Nice engine!!

Thanks, and you will love the Proform.

Fuel pump - yes with the Mallory pump I am running this fuel pressure gauge/regulator and gauge, although I ran this pump on my '71 Challenger with no regulator.  https://www.summitracing.com/parts/hly-12-841  https://www.summitracing.com/parts/hly-26-500

Suspension - PST has the Bilsteins, t-bars, and the rest of the suspension parts.  Use code CK75V to save $75 on a $750 order, or CK100W to save $100 on a $1000 order.

@303 Mopar

Just wanted to say thanks again for helping me figure out a direction I should go on parts. I ended up putting a list together and ordering all the engine related stuff for now you suggested and I will order suspension stuff later.

Some notes just in case you wanted to know:

According to Mancini Racing - FireCore no longer makes the Firecore RTR, so they suggested I go with MSD so I did (black coil/black 6AL box).

TTI 2" headers - As discussed before I have an issue where my header just barely hits my power steering. TTI recommended I loosen the power steering box and try and adjust it outward, or put a shim in the driverside motor mount. Other research has said that others have modified the power steering box a bit to gain clearance. Overall the info on TTI says it should fit, but TTI told me sometimes people run into issues like this since not every car was made perfectly the same. Not exactly what I like to hear after dropping 1k on headers, but I'll work around it. Hopefully what I posted above helps others if needed. I also bought the full TTI 3" x-pipe exhaust and tips so I will find out how much or how little I really like their exhaust system lol.

usraptor

I'm also running the 440 Source 512 Stroker, Lunati 704 hydraulic cam, Holley Dominator Intake and TTI headers with 3"X Pipe.  However, my headers are the
1 7/8' and fit without hitting but I'm running manual steering also.  If it's not to late consider buying the Dynomax Ultra Flo mufflers instead of the turbos.  Better flow and sound.
Re Mechanical fuel pump, I'm running the Carter hi pressure mechanical pump and it seems to work fine.  Re Oil pump, yes unless you have an overly large oil pan you don't want a high volume oil pump as they can suck a stock pan dry.  Instead go for a hi pressure oil pump.  Re Carb, you might also want to look at Quick Fuel.  I'm running their 880 CFM SS series carb and it's very responsive right out of the box.  Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.

Thanks for the info, I appreciate it!

TTI Mufflers - I'll try to catch them about the muffler swap, if not oh well. I'm sure I'll be happy (Haven't heard a V8 rumble in awhile lol).
Fuel pump -  Well I went with an electric pump. I wasn't really wanting one because I've heard some really loud external pumps in the past, but it sounds like the Mallory 4150 is pretty quiet.
Oil pump - Mancini Racing suggested the stock flow fuel pump would be sufficient for my hemi pan (On my 440, I think its a 5 quart pan?). He said the high volume was okay to go to too, but suggest the stock Melling pump is good enough just not to get the hi pressure one. So your info and his is conflicting but either way I got the stock one.
Carb - I ended up getting a Proform black racing series 950 CFM, as per Proforms suggestion based on my engine and components. I've heard great things from Quick Fuel too, but I had to pull the trigger on Proform just because I've heard more positive feedback about the carb.

I will keep you guys posted for sure! It will be like Christmas with all the parts I ordered coming in, lol.

MoparJunkie

Well my parts came in (well most of them, lol). I was able to get the Dynomax Ulta Flo mufflers instead of the turbos. It's feeling like Christmas came early!! :veryexcited:
I'm just waiting until my buddy finishes the paint and then it's off to finally start piecing my baby together! Hopefully the weather holds out for a bit longer. My buddy said he doesn't like to paint in the cold weather (I guess paint doesn't stick really well in cold weather.....)

nsmall

I pretty much hate shopping for anything however when it comes to the car it's fun and it's even more fun getting boxes.  Yes, lots of fun.

Chryco Psycho

I use a lot of the Proform carbs , they at the top as far as tuning & response , great choice

You're one of the reasons I bought it, I heard you mention them a few times and you sound like you know what you're talking about  :D

On a side note, I just purchased a dash pad from Mopar Dave (Thanks!). The plan is to rebuild the dash over the winter.

Also I have other thoughts bouncing around in my head like wheels and tires. I've been dead set on 15s for years since I've started this build but the lack of 15s isn't making my choice super easy. According to Dr Diff (after I buy his disc brake setup) I should be able to fit 28x12x15s (Roughly 305x54x15) (With B-body Dana mod) on 15x10s with 5.5 BS. I believe from a tire calculator if I was to switch to a 17 inch wheel a 28x12x15 tire should be about a 305x45x17 tire. Not sure if I want to go 17s but I'd be curious to see if I can find more 17s that are a 17x10 with 5.5BS (00mm). Anyone with a B-body rear end running 17s and how much tire do you have out back?

Brads70

I'm running a b-body rear end and using 18x11 rims( 5.5 backspacing)  with a 295/40/18 tire with no issues.

Chryco Psycho

I believe 17 or 18 is your best choice for 2 reasons , there are a lot more tire choices available & you can probably fit 315 wide as there is less sidewall bulge

Thanks, how's the fitment? Lots of room still left or is it pretty tight on either side (From leafs to fenders)? What brake setup are you running? Any recommended wheel venders? So far the only thing I've found after google searching is either 17x9.5 or 17x11 billet specialties street lites. They seem pretty nice, but I woudn't mind more options! Also if you are running leafs, +1 or stock height? Feel free to post some pictures! Thanks again!
