Preparing car for media blasting and found this on the roof.  There are two ridges on the roof near the windshield at the same location on the right and left of the roof.
I considered that maybe people sat on the roof, on both sides, but inside, the forward roof support cross-member shows no sign of having been deformed or buckled, and the rest of the roof shows no sign of deformation.
I suspect that these are not beauty dimples put in by the factory and that this area of the roof should be smooth.
Has anyone seen this before.  I have a friend who used to work for Lockheed assembling aircraft and he says that they used to see this kind of deformation when the tooling got old.

First, I want to confirm that this area should be smooth.  I took the picture with the sun at a steep angle to accentuate the ridges.  You need to run your hand carefully over the roof to feel them.

Yes, those should not be there.   :alan2cents:  Should be smooth and flow back nicely to the rear where there is a ridge line before the rear window.

OK, thanks Cody.
These are very low protrusion.  Having the ridges sanded and the sun at the right angle makes them stand out.  They should come out easily with a hammer and a spoon dolly.

Here's some photos of the front and rear.  I can take better ones if you need, but I think you're right and a little hammer and dolly will solve it.

My car did that from previous owner storingstuff on the roof

Here is a good picture of the area on my newly blasted -73.

I've seen marks like that due to, as mentioned, stuff being stacked on the roof- sometimes an entire other car. They look like they may have been caused by a fork lift fork or a frame rail sliding over the roof. They may be stretched a wee bit and need to be shrank to prevent oil-canning in your roof. Just my  :alan2cents:

Yep.  I'll use the hammer and dolly first. Then I'll hit it with a shrinking disk if necessary.

Well then you don't have a bodyman's sense of feel....  That should be very obvious....

Vinyl top car?  My Challenger originally had one and there were a lot of dips/dings underneath. I think they used glue to fill them in.

A vinyl roof hides a lot of little sins as it doesn't refract like a painted roof. They surely didn't fill dents with glue at the factory, although there IS a rather long list of other sins they did commit!  ::)
