Hi all excited to be here from c-c, great place.

I just used the fender decoder, very nice!

some general questions please;

I just installed cartool subframe connectors, fitted best I could but ended up with some large gaps were it was not flush and welded.   What is the best seam sealer to use for running a bead down each side of the rail.   where else should sealer be applied underneath?  do you apply direct over metal or after primer.

Also, I plan on painting underside.  Need to dress up small areas with filler first.  what is the best method, filler over bare metal or primer?  if I have butt join or overlap repairs I remember reading to always use fiber filled filler first then use regular filler on top, true?

Thanks for help!  I also have rear quarter repair question, will start another thread with pics for that.

Welcome!

I love ever-coat products:

Sands nice applies smooth .

Sem seam sealer (goes on after primer before color)

They also make a 2 part seam sealer  heavy bodied is thicker and would be good for your application

For the overlap areas i would use a stranded filler as you thought:

Welcome @Jocigar    :welcome:  Thanks for joining us.   :banana:  Glad you liked the decoder.  We have a lot more things in the works that I think you will find intereesting.

As for the cartool subframe connectors, they really help a lot.  I've driven a few cars with them installed and they work perfect.  As for the gaps, it's best to custom fit them before you weld them in as that gives you the best performance, but if they are already in, no worries.  They make seal sealer that will fill the gap.  I use the 3M Seal Sealers and love them.

They also make 2 part sealers, but I like the flexibility of that single part sealer.  It's also best to put bare metal in a 2 part epoxy primer before doing the sealers.  Seal all seams.  The factory used a sloppy fast way to put it on, but if you want a nice even seam you can use wax and grease remover on your finger to smooth it out as you go.

Sorry, that was the wrong car (didn't have subframes on it).  Here's one with subframe connectors installed.

Thank you for the welcome!! and super fast replies ... wish the restoration would move at this pace.

I appreciate the help.

so;
metal prep
epoxy primer
sealer and/or filler
paint
?

do I use a sandable primer underneath?
fiber filler needs to be covered with regular filler?
self etching and epoxy primer one in the same?
all work after metal work follows epoxy primer? does it need to be scuffed?

Sorry to ask novice questions.   many thanks!

Cuda Cody

It's great to asks questions before, so feel free to ask as many as you want.

Short answer, Yes = Metal prep.  Then Epoxy primer, then body work.  I can go in to details more tomorrow when I have time.  Can you post a few photos of where you are at in the restoration?

 :welcome: etch primer has it's purposes but you are better off using epoxy primer. you can do your filler work over the top of it, seam sealer, and you have seven day working window were you don't need to sand it. you can use A serfacer primer to fill the sanding scratches, but you don't want to apply it over bare metal. that is were etch or epoxy primer comes into play.

Thanks everyone !  appreciate the help and answers and warm welcome.

Mr. Cody,  I will post pictures later, need to snap some shots.

I do have pics of rear quarters and would like some advise on how you all would handle it.
