My 1970 driver's side glass is scratched pretty bad. I tried a few things off YouTube, but is it even fixable or am I into it for a new piece of glass? Thanks

They say if your fingernail can feel the scratch then it's probably not going to look good by the time you sand out the scratches. That looks pretty bad.

I had a scratch on my windshield that was caused by a previous owner ignoring the fact that the rubber part of the wiper was gone.  :pullinghair: Anyway, I try to fix or restore everything so I tried to polish out the scratch and it worked! I'm happy with the results. You need 1000 and 2000 grit pads (got mine on EBay), an electric polisher, Cerium Oxide glass polishing compound, a couple pads to apply the compound.

Mark the scratch on the underneath side of the glass with a sharpie so you can see where to work. Use the 1000 pad to remove the scratch and haze the glass, the 2000 pad to remove the 1000 haze, finish with the CO compound. Easy. Be careful not to overheat the glass and take your time. The CO flys all over the place so work outdoors for that part. The CO can be used on the entire glass but only work the 1000/2000 pads in an area around the scratch.

I have some videos that a member made and sent me if you are interested. Just PM me and I'll send them to you. Good luck!

That looks too far gone to me....talking from experience. You are looking at hours with no guarantee.

I'm going to try and polish the glass on my car before just buying new glass.  40 bucks on Amazon and a day or so of my time.  See what happens.  I can only imagine the price of all new Glass way up here in Canada.

I agree: That piece looks too far gone through my monitor. If you did save it I think you would end up with a distorted view out of it. JMO.

My window is the same. It's caused by a bad guide felt inside the door.

Maybe you could upload that video and your experience to the resources section.  :dunno:
