For anyone thinking of moving to Northern California I will provide a little perspective:

. I want a 20 acre place where my next neighbor is over 1.5 miles away from me.

Can I be your Neighbor?  :haha:

Keeping this non political...
Originally from Wisconsin but moved to California at a young age. Thru all my years here I do not have a single friend or family member that has remained. Only me and the family I made. 22 years in my house now. Make more annually than we ever have. And now barely scrape to survive. California is one of the highest tax burdened states in the union. Regardless of income level.

It was so cool living here in the 70's.

God I miss that.

60's were great, 70's awesome 80's a lot of good times... 90"s things were changing but still you could have a great time... By the time 2000 rolled around it was rapidly getting worse & in the past 15 years it's ridiculous....

I doubt that as rentals in my area are going from 5k to 8.5k so doing the math let's pick 7k and convert it into CDN.

That's $9245 CDN dollars for a rental!!!

No, Northern California is low rent compared to where I live. I am thinking more like Montana or somewhere like that though. The more I know people, the less I want to be around them.

That will never happen. We will break away from the US first before that happens.

6th largest economy in the World and all.  :haha:

:wrenching: I thought California was going to break up into several separate states? Nancy, Maxine and Jerry are planning

Texas is 10% savings for me right off the bat but the heat will literally kill you.

Looks like Montana, Wyoming or possibly Utah. Problem is moving to these places comes with different problems - snow, ice, cold, wildfires (well we have those too now). There is never the perfect nirvana, unless I go to Costa Rica or the Caribbean.

$8.5k rental for what? A mansion? I need to get into the rental business.

I had a few former colleagues retired further up north by Eureka. Suppose to be much cheaper, less crowded, more open spaces but also more wet and cooler. I need to check it out sometime.

I for one love the USA, and i love today's economy as well.   Yep..thats what I said.   Oh for the record i hate Trump and his embarrassing mouth and shoot from the hip attitude.

I lived in Western Pa, for most of my life.   I graduated from College in 1969 and went to work for RCA in New Jersey as a computer programmer....  While working for them for 2+ years, I bought my first new car a slant six, 3sp manual 1970 Challenger as soon as i found out my draft lottery number was high enough that i wouldn't be drafted.   Then RCA sold my division to Sperry Rand On January 1'st 1972 and i got an 8 week severance pay without losing a days wages...  Down to the Dodge dealer and traded in the Challenger for a 72 Charger SE with 318 automatic and air conditioning.  ..  I quit Sperry and went to work for Westinghouse in Pittsburgh and was with them until 1998...27 years with one company then Westinghouse ran into financial difficulty and sold my division to RSL a communications company.

Two years later RSL went bankrupt and i found myself unemployed for the first time in my life at the age of 55.   55 nobody wants you !!  What a shock...  But i survived and got a job teaching computer science with ITT Technical Institute.  5 years with them and at the age of 60 got laid off as they too ran into problems and were using more and more CBT classes and less and less real instructors..  60 wow nobody wants you...  I sold cars for 1 year to stay afloat...talk about a long hours low paying thankless job !!   Bottom of the Barrel.  But then i got lucky and finished got hired by United Health as a software analyst, installing new software and patches to their billing system...  In 2008 when the stock market recession bottomed out i lost about 75% of my 401K savings, but, luckily it rebounded decently..  Trust me, im not rich !!

Retired 5 years later and moved to NC...taxes are much lower here for retirees, and cost of living lower, gasoline among the cheapest in the country, cars don't rust.   No, i don't own a new Hellcat, wife doesnt drive a Lexus SUV, nor do we take vacations to Europe, or expensive cruises, but,  Life is good !  Bought my 1974 Challenger in 2015 which needed restored for $5,000 and put about $8,000 into restoring it doing all of the work myself.   .  Engine blew...most of you read my thread, and built a new engine 408 stroker engine for under $4,000.   I'm living 85% off of Social Security (you know that Ponzi scheme system which is supposed to go bankrupt), and 15% off of my 401K.   I own (no mortgage) my own home (1900 square ft ranch on 3/4 acre lot with detached 2 1/2 car garage, play golf 2-3 times a week, and have the two classic cars...66 Charger (bought and restored in 2005-2011) and my 74 Challenger.   Wife and I have 3 great grandkids within 15 miles of us.   We always baby sit a lot, and buy them lots of things and take them everywhere..   My greatest hope is that we can leave from what is left of 401k and my home at least $25K for each of them to go to college with.

So, when people say the 60's, 70, 80's, 90 etc were great and its all terrible now, i say bullshit.   The system works !!   Work hard, don't live extravagantly and you can live a good hopefully long life.
