I HAVE to stop looking at this thing  :looney:
With this picture I was going to point out the ill-fitting lower front valance....but that's too obvious ....

Look at the THICKNESS of the fenders at the grill headlight area... :o  Which side is correct ? That would be a lot of bondo in the passenger side

Looks like the picture taker isn't exactly centered in the car when he took the pic he's more towards the passenger side so i think you see more of the front 1/4 as it flares out.

I would have hoped that was the case, but watching the video you can clearly see how "THICK" the passenger side fender is and the mid line just disappears  :o

I just sent "Bill" this message and invited him to join the conversation here.

There is so much bullshit in this ad about this one owner car I'm surprised you haven't been charged with false advertisement.
http://www.californiaclassix.com/garage/c1232.html
NOT the original vinyl top, heck it's not even the right colour.
NOT the original carpet
NOT the original headliner or overhead consolette material
Tons of issues on the underside that equate to the car being in a pretty good accident; replaced lower control arm, bent tie rod, buckled inner apron, bondo'd up passenger side fender, etc... etc...
Give this internet thread a read....some very knowledgeable people pointing out a lot of things.

I get you're excited to find a car in this condition, and you likely stole it from the family, and I agree it's likely worth mid $40's, but come on...let the car speak for itself 'cause you obviously don't know much about them.

We'll see if he answers :dunno:

So the bid went over 40k. Didn't hit the reserve but it shows buyers are still willing to pay big money for even unrestored base models needing work. According to Hagerty, it's not worth anywhere close to that number. Just goes to show that those valuation tools aren't very helpful on rare cars that don't change hands very often.

2 bidders took it from $28K to $40K - maybe they need to examine the pictures more closely  :takealook:

I think a lot more people think it is a sub $30K Gran Coupe than the $40K+ price the seller is looking for
I think one would/should purchase a car where the majority think the value is, not where one guy with "more money than brains" thinks it's WORTH  :o

but the seller needs just one buyer to believe a nice "gold" 2bbl Gran Coupe is the "be-all-end-all" of the '71 Barracuda line
has anyone "collected" or know of a stock restored or survivor Gran Coupe  :takepicture: would love to see pics

Next we need to have a discussion about Shill Bidders... Pushed by two bidders to what is likely just shy of it's reserve.... The real bidders dropped out at $28K... If they weren't shills than the guy selling has a serious pipe dream going on with his reserve...

It's also possible that the bidders are genuine and the car really is worth $40k even if we don't want it to be. When you go above 20k, there are very few buyers ready to pull the trigger. Next time you watch an auction on a 40-50k car, count how many bidders there are. Most drop out early and it's always just two fighting it out and driving the price up another 10k. Maybe they are stupid and have too much money. Or maybe they are serious and willing to pay what it takes to get what they really want. I don't think I've ever seen 8 bidders aggressively going after a car right up until the bitter end, all dropping out at the last minute because it's now $1000 over their preset limit.

Cars are not worth what we think they should be but what rather the price a buyer and seller agree upon, supported by similar sales which we will never have for comparison here since there aren't many of these unmolested cars left. We have seen many rusted out junk BASE model 71 Barracudas sell for over $20k. Cars that are closer to shells than to complete running driving cars like this one. So does everyone here truly believe that this car is only worth a few dollars more than a rusty pile of garbage? Sorry but that just doesn't hold water in my opinion.

I asked him:
Hi, Obviously, the car had been in an accident. What are the details of that occurrence. Was the K-member or frame affected and if so how? Thank you in advance for your time and trouble, Ray

He answered:
Hi,

Thank you for your interest.

We measured the car with an electronic paint metering device, it is 85% factory paint. The upper front valance was apparently damaged but we could not find any frame damage. Hood still wears factory paint. Don't think you'll ever find another Barracuda with better overall integrity. The car is 100% rust free.

Best regards,

Bill

I would never trust his response anyway. I'd inspect in top to bottom personally. I think any rail, k-frame, or inner fender damage would stand out.
