What I don't like about the new stuff is all the "control" they build in. The new stuff will report to the government every time you speed, hard on the throttle, if your emissions ( gas powered) are not right they can shut it off right in your driveway. Didn't pay your taxes, fines, social credits( google it!), child support, etc.... they click they shut off " your " car. How do you think they are going to recoup gas taxes in the future! Your mileage will get reported to the government agency and you get a bill to pay.
Total control.....  While you get to pay for "your" new car the computer systems will be government owned and illegal to tamper with. You don't get to actually "own" the entire car, just rent it.  Sounds far fetched I know but it's coming.... Hopefully after I'm off this planet.
If they were REALLY concerned about the environment they would make everything including cars last as long as possible , but not nearly as much taxes in that..... typical, follow the money.

Wouldn't mind a hybrid with a Hemi V8 at all for a daily driver. That probably aint gonna happen though. So I guess I have to build one when the time comes  8)

That's pretty cynical Brad....were you watching The Terminator recently? lol..oh well, they can't remotely shut off your Challenger!

While being old school, I don't much like it. The plus is an electric motor has major torque at any RPM level.

Will I be a buyer? I say no time soon.   :D

My issue remains the landscape devastation that is required for the mining.
Currently not an issue discussed because most is at 3rd world countries. Easy to sweep under the bad image rug.
Much like oil it is a finite resource.
Just another stopgap direction until the next major invention can fill the need.
There is a massive usage of conventional fuel being used in the mining equipment.
Last report I read was that it takes on average 3.5 years of full electric driving just to get back to neutral from what was used.
I agree change is warranted eventually. Just not electric.
I would however test drive one...

Unfortunately electric cars are the future all around. I say unfortunately because future generations will never experience what we are so lucky to have lived through.
The sound of a internal combustion engine lighting up the tires.  The smell of that fuel burning. I am truly glad to lived in this time. The future is not for me.

To your point, did you ever see that Vince Vaughn movie, "The Dilemma"? They were trying to apply that visceral experience to electric cars. He drove a nice Chally, too!

I agree , mining for the resources needed to build electric / batteries  & disposal at the end makes Clean zero emissions vehicles far more toxic than most will admit too or realize .

Yep, as I noted mining and disposal (good additional point) is all in obscure countries no one cares about. Yet...

Here's a suggestion. How about, instead of pissing and moaning about the use of the worlds' resources for the good of mankind; we spend our resource money wisely and invest in perfecting fusion power? It'll run on water and not even Al Gore nor David Suzuki can make a case that that's an endangered substance or a potential pollutant. Electricity should be nearly free- I know, I know- and most things could be run electrically; thereby leaving the hemis of this world to live on and bring a smile to the faces of every gearhead who hears, sees and feels their power.

My opinion is hydrogen for the long term. Put the resources into that to which supply is unlimited. Guarantee the battery resource supply will be severely limited in comparison to oil.
Still mining resources 100 years from now to fulfill the millions of cars produced annually. Not a hugger here. I have 3 of the old guzzlers myself. It just bugs me to see this a poorly chosen path.

I recall being a newbie on the other website years ago and made a mention about an Electric driven E body.

It was nothing but Crickets and Deer in the headlights.

Electric power is incredible $hit!

186,000 miles per second.

hydrogen may be the best solution for vehicles long term
Thorium has to be one of the best power sources for electricity

:alan2cents:    I own and drive a 6mpg Cuda.  I drive it less because of it.  But I do love it!!  I have driven a Tesla Model S P90.  It is an incredible car.  It does everything very well.  I think I could drive electric because of the torque.  And 20 other reasons.  If a Challenger is released with four independent electric motors with 700 ft lbs tq, that thing will be a beast!  With all of the other positive aspects of being electric.  I see no reason as to why not look at it and at least compare the power sources.  What if Dodge releases an electric Challenger to replace the Demon/Redeye as the new halo car?  Would you be interested in it then?
I agree that Hydrogen is the long term future.  I have been asking my money guy to find me a way to invest in it now. But nothing is traded publicly that he has found.  I want to be one of those oil money or tech money guys some day, but from hydrogen.  It still may be too early.

Ballard was leading the hydrogen research but they evaporated

Sweden, Norway and Finland have been developing Hydrogen fueling for years.
