Is there a guide anywhere for how the bubble should fit in the shaker (and the correct dimensions of the bubble)?

The 70s style bubble I have seems too big for the hole/trim ring.

This is a complicated setup, I'm just looking to do some research as I look to fab something up.

I just set a new AMD shaker hood on my 392 gen 3 hemi cuda. I found an entire shaker setup from a 2018 challenger to fit my motor. Obviously the new bubble is too small, so I also picked up a cheaper 70's style bubble to modify as needed. I wonder if the cheap bubble is not correct, or if it's supposed to sit lower than I expected.

Can you close the hood all the way?  It doesn't look to far off from the height of an original bubble.

One suggestion ....  If you have a spring front center to pop up the hood, remove it so you know whether shaker base seal is touching or not when you close the hood.

I just have it mocked up sitting on some cardboard in there. It will take some MacGuyvering to size it perfectly with my setup.

My immediate concern is, when holding the hood down to flush, The shaker bubble does not come all the way through the trim ring. It looks like the back of the bubble will be under the hood.

Do they normally sit that low? The new ones seem to stick up all the way through the opening.

It looks good, the back of the bubble should be back under the trim ring a bit.

I appreciate the advice! I was worried my cheap shaker had the wrong dimensions.

The late-model version is much more aggressive (although about 2" shorter, and sits about centered on the motor, which must be closer to center on the new cars)

Yea, the new ones are tiny compared to an original.

Original everything on my old Hemi Cuda. If you haven't seen one you would think they sit down a bit. The orange car had a garbage repro one but the dimensions were about right, it was sitting up a bit higher than stock.

I think in the first picture you're pretty close to a factory look. As seen in Sheldon's pictures posted about, the shaker scoop was really just poking out of the hood. The modern ones seem to be more evident and a lot taller.
With a 392 hemi, have you thought about mounting the scoop to the hood instead, I've seen several custom cars done that way.

I have seen shaker scoops attached to hoods on trans-am's, That makes it just a hood scoop and not a shaker anymore.

I've seen that as well, but love the look of the shaker with the hood open as well.  Unfortunately for this application, the 392 does not shake at all.

I have a 70 Challenger with a 392 and a shaker hood, and have been looking for a decent cost/quality scoop.

I've seen some real cheap on EBay ($75), and most REAL expensive! I would be very appreciative to get your input since you have seen it 1st hand....

I purchased one on eBay from "fiberglassautoparts4u" for $135 shipped. I figured it would have to be modified so I didn't want to start with a $600 bubble. They said they used an original shaker as a mold.

It seems ok (will have to paint and adapt grills as there are no mounting points, won't be using a cable), but it's hard to tell without another one to compare it to.

If you don't mind, I'd really appreciate it! Maybe inner, outer and height measurements if you have them.

Mine's not perfect, but if the size is correct, I can continue mocking up the rest of the setup.
