OK, this should be an easy one but I'm having problems with getting mixed results.
How many 1971 Challengers were built?

I've taught you everything you know....but I haven't taught you everything I know....

Of the sites I have found, 26,742 is the most common.

Most, if not ALL published production numbers don't include cars shipped to Canada or Internationally :alan2cents:

Ok, I just bought a 71 Challenger Convertiable. The last 6 numbers in the vin are 358740.
It's a Y28 code (Public Relations).
Am I not reading the vin correctly?

JS29

@CudaHead  The numbers are not model specific, It's what is next in line.  :alan2cents:

That is what I was thinking also, but I had thought the numbers were showing what number it was in the total numbers produced.
Thanks' for answering.

29,883 total 1971 Dodge Challengers

the VIN sequence numbers are assigned in batches and have little to do with the order in which the cars were built, other than low = early & high = late in the model year

Hamtramck 1971 started at 1B100001 & ended around 1B455700 (~355,700 vehicles) including Valiants, Dusters, Darts, Barracudas & Challengers

JH23 /6 = 1,946
JH23 V8 = 21,142
JH27 /6 = 84
JH27 V8 = 2,081
JS23 = 4,630

QuoteMr. MOM: "PP833, 883 whatever it takes"
- sorry  :unbelievable:  typo & it includes the CANADA & EXPORT spec. cars

@CudaHead    8)  good looking - nicely OPTIONED Challenger   any info about what it was used for?

6bblgt

@CudaHead can you share your car's fender tag?

CudaHead

WOW, that looks exactly like the interior of my new car.
Thanks for the data.
I'm off to read the thread that was sent.

Thanks Everyone

My car is A red Convertible with White interior.
It has 41K miles on it. Lots of options. Looks and drives like new. 80% original Paint.
It was made in Hamtramck, MI.
Delivered to "Compton Motors Inc., 2043 White Horse Pike, Egg Harbor City, NJ"
The Build Sheet has "Late Delivery" written on it.
Built 4/1971
I have tracked it back to 2002. I'm working on 1971 to 2002.
I'm still waiting for the original documents to see what I can figure out.
Really nice car

6bblgt, your breakdown numbers correspond with what I have, but they add up to 29,883, not 29,833.

How ever many it was, it wasn't enough!

We won't tell them about all the cool ones that were sold new in Canada that didn't get counted in those numbers  ;) :canada:
