That award wasn't for the best car, it was for the best owner Brad.  ;)

Got the party started, but had to press pause until Sunday. Crank/pistons/cam installed though

Took it to new heights.
Literally @ 8000ft elevation.
Big Bear destination is 6,700ft

Quote from: Chryco Psycho on August 06, 2025, 10:35:58 PMI took .100 off my head , it needed mid grade to stop pinging but the power shure came up , I used the alum 2 bbl intake with a Holley 500 cfm carb , worked awesome

I had to go .030 over on the bore, took .060 off the head and .030 off the block. I had it all balanced (if you look closely you can see the huge holes of metal he removed from the crank. Interestingly the front of the crank had a LOT more material removed than the rear), overkill for sure, but I'm glad I did it after seeing how much was removed.  I'll get firm deck clearance measurements Sunday, but I might have pushed it higher than I wanted. It's getting an offenhauser 4bbl and AVS2 500 with Clifford headers. It'll be interesting to see what it does

Ec co: You gotta work up to seeing if you can break that 8 3/4! Really neat build.
Thumper: I bet the turbo and injection are at home dealing with that high elevation.

Yes overall good trip. Had to turn on settings to compensate for altitude. More stuff to learn and fine tune.

Didn't get too much done today, my building buddy had to work. Changed out the rod bolts for ARP because one of the standards started to stretch. I did get my final CR worked out though.

Car show is a wrap. Goal met. Not without some issues. Miles of 95deg heat prior to drive up caused fuel in tank to get super heated. It randomly cut out 4 times prior to reaching summit. Waited a few minutes in-between each stall and it fired right back up. Unfortunately issue persisted. Figured out that the factory vent line plugged up solid. Heat and altitude climb created pressure issues. Once at altitude it became vacuum issues.
Once figured out, the temporary fix to make it home was to remove gas cap.
Ran perfectly.
Time for a real setup with Tanks-inc internal pump system.

Mine gets warm too. I have an electric pump and a return line so its always circulating. Lost of options for fuel coolers but I've never needed one yet?  If I was to get one , I think this style would be less prone to damage under the car?

I'd advise you to get this sending unit. Works pretty good IMO.

This is more of a what did you do with your VW today? Moving into the new place, got the VW in (my next project, I bought it in 95, rebuilt the motor twice and then some kid side swiped me and 2006) and the Barracuda gets moved next week. Loving the new garage space

Car had been "squeeking" when driving.  Examined and realized the four bumpers weren"t there so bought a kit on ebay for $35 and installed yesterday.   Then while at it re aligned the hood support as it was sticking up a bit..   Now all is good...no more squeeks !!

Doing a temp "inventory inspection" assembly as parts come back from powder coating (k frame etc) or refinishing in my shop (resto Rick cosmolene appearance paint, LCA's), links/bushings from Ryan at Mancini. These parts had been in tubs for decades. Huge thank you goes out to a local e body owner that not only gave me a sway bar (was missing), but insisted on delivering it. Ken N, you da man. I'll be leaning on the forum group for guidance in rebuilding the steering linkage soon as I have zero experience.  :clueless:
