Took the 74 Challenger out for the first good run of the year. Sadly, it would randomly cut out, tach would go to zero and then it would bounce back and run fine. It didn't do this last fall. I need to do a little investigative work on this one. But it was a awesome day for a run with a 72 Challenger toting buddy. A couple craft breweries thrown into the mix made it an afternoon that doesn't get any better.

avatar_blown motor @blown motor  , Murray, when you say "cut out" was that as if the key was turned off. I had that with my car a while in 2021. See post #20 (Bullitt) and Post #22 (mine).

Yes, the car would pause and then go again and run fine. @Jaybee where is the connector in post #22?

It's the ignition switch connector under the dash that comes out of the steering column, BTW, you got my nickname wrong -LOL.

Yeah, I saw his post in the other thread, he's probably the ebody record holder.

Started working on the Dr Diff front disc brake conversion kit install. Booster/master installed, driver side coming apart fine - the passenger side is being the PITA with the drum shoes holding the drum from being removed. Called it a day and will hit it again later .... can't believe how sore I feel - between getting older and the accident/recovery  :tired:

Yesterday I went to Guelph to my friend the engine builder/machinist to pick up the pushrods I'd ordered. He said Purolator were usually like clockwork and there by noon. After a nice bowl of pho for lunch I arrived at what I thought was a safe time of 12:30- no courier, so Harold and I shot the shit until about 1:40 when I said "call if he comes" and headed back to Cambridge. I literally pulled in my driveway when Harold called, and you guessed it, the courier had come! What else to do but go back to Guelph again and get them! Grr! Back home and lubed/installed them and started to set the lash. Putzing around until supper. The next day (today) I went out and set the side gaps for the rockers and eventually marked the harmonic balancer @ 90' and used a FABO post to set the valves. This also entailed me getting my exercise what with the 20-39 trips from the car to the computer to check what and where. The ONE advantage of having the intake off was that I could closely observe the action of the pushrods on the upper plunger of the lifters and I think (after 2-3 hrs-hey, I'm an old fart) that I got them pretty close. I'd taped over the intake ports to keep schmutz out and when it blew one piece of tape off it scared the hell out of me. LOL. And then there was the intake to reinstall. It's always been a struggle and I put it on dry to verify that I'd be able to get all the bolts (that I'd elongated) back in. Finally, it was time to face the music and my wife came out to lend a hand. The Right Stuff was spread hither and thither and we hoisted the intake back on and with some coaxing, I got the bolts in and started and eventually pulled down. I'm, going to give 'er over-night to cure before returning any coolant to the engine. Son Nick asked if I'd checked the compression after the repair, so I got out the tester and threaded it in #1. I was pleasantly surprised when good old #1 (which had zero psi previously, cranked over about 3 times and showed 235psi! Amazing what shutting the valves can do for compression, eh?!Yea! Figuring that as my gramma used to say, "that's enough hay down for today" I washed off most of the Right Stuff and headed for the beer fridge!

Got back from the cottage and spent this morning putting the engine back together accessory-wise. Got the valve covers on after trying to relieve them a bit more where they come up against the intake. We'll see if they leak once I get this thing running. Put my weepy old Holley 600 back on until I get the kit put into the 750 on the bench. Reconnected heater and rad hoses, the toughest of them was that damn little transfer hose. I got it's number though with the long pry bar and it went right on. :bigthumb: I had a hell of a time with the throttle cable mount, the cage nut kept slipping off and falling into the belly of the air-gap style intake and creative work with a magnet and profanity was required! Just the coolant to return and I think we can give 'er a go, know what I mean Vern?! Nick thought we should at least crack the oil drain to see if any coolant went down and although I don't think much, if indeed any did, we will. Better safe than sorry though, eh? God I hope the start-up goes well and it runs well. The bride and I am supposed to go on this years Ontario Hot Rod Run in about a week and how the old gal (car, not wife) works is critical. It's like waiting for the delivery of your first child in a strange, car-like way. Wish us luck boyos!

It lives!! Yesterday Nick came over after work and since I'd spent a couple of hours earlier putting on parts, it was get out the compression tester hose, screw it into #1, find TDC, check the position of the rotor, dump some gas down the carb and it didn't turn over twice before it bellowed to life! Thank God!    It didn't take long to get hot and the idiot (me) who filled the rad also had to get the kitty litter out to soak up the overun from the rad accordingly. It sounds much more mean than the old engine and Lunati played a part in that! Today I pulled the valve covers and went through the rocker arms and gave them another adjustment with a quarter turn. Bolted the covers back on and it again fired right up. Valve train noise was reduced a fair bit, but I think it'll take at least one more go-through to quieten it up. It's pissing rain here, so no chance to get the old girl out of the garage for a test ride. My Ontario Hot Rod tour is drawing nigh and I hope the car is up to it.

Thank you and if it ever stops raining here, I'd like to take it out and put some check ride miles on it.  :bigthumb:

Dropped off the engine/head to the machine shop, rcvd my 3.55 gear set and sure grip from Dr Diff and I'll drop it all off for the rebuild tomorrow. Bushings installed in the upper control arms, previously rebuilt lower control arms (from a b-body) installed + the new disc spindles.
