It is a JS23 vin car with A62 on the fender tag
It never had a washer bottle or foot pump in it when I bought it

This has me really intrigued. Did someone just try to get by with replacing a bad 3 speed motor with a 2 speed one? What switch is in the dash, 2 speed or var speed? Can you see which "link" is connected to the motor(see picture)?

Looks like you'll need the washer bottle and washer motor/pump for an accurate 2 speed to variable speed conversion too.

P.S. @6bblgt is basically The Man! Always great, informative posts.  Thanks!  :ohyeah:

Sorry for the delay getting back to you guys ( time difference Down Under)

@ Jay Bee I'm thinking the same but why would someone not just change the motor for another 3 speed and save you all the hassle of changing everything else.
It has the 2 speed crank and link arm ( left picture) and the 2 speed switch in the dash ( I'm pretty sure). As I mentioned the car didn't have the washer bottle, pump and all the plumbing under the hood to give me clue. I have received a new complete washer bottle assembly from Roseville parts.

Would date coding my 2 speed wiper motor give me an idea if it was original to the car?

Jay Bee

Date coding would give you an idea. I've seldom seen 2 speed wiper motors that still have the part number/date code tag with them.

@ Jay Bee Here is a pic of the tag, is it 109th day 1971??
Also a pic of my switch

Well that's weird, a 1971 motor in a 1970 Challenger. Sure wouldn't seem to be original to the car.

So it's safe to say it was all swapped out with my original 3 speed at some stage

Either that, or your car was re-bodied  :dunno:

I'm curious about something else, which grommet/plug do you have on the firewall.

Thanks, that would mean it had an electric washer pump therefore more ammunition leading to the conclusion it had originally 3 speed/variable speed components.

I've seen pictures of cars with rallye gauges and 2 speed wipers and thought they were just standard dash cars converted to rallye with the wiper setup left as 2 speed. But that A62 on your car makes this a confusing mystery.

6bblgt

it is a 1970 Challenger R/T (JS23)
it originally had 3-speed windshield wipers & an electric washer pump STANDARD - no other possibility

most people think these cars have always been treasured and well kept - but in reality most have been used & abused, parted & reassembled over the decades

Just wanted to add another picture to this thread.
