My guess, somebody had no clue what things were really going to cost.... or maybe lost his financial backing...

Yea, I see a lot of that happening...people have big hopes and dreams, and then reality sets in....Unfortunately it's usually me smashing their dreams when I quote them the cost of restoring a car... :'( even if you "do all the work yourself" the cost of parts, paint supplies and what not, has gone crazy... :headbang:

I will second that one - I am not new the car scene or restoring cars, but e-body prices, the lack of parts availability andthe fact that you have very few options makes the cost staggeringly high- I am already WAY past my budget and I haven't even started wrenching yet :bigmoney:

A perfect example is the dash pads from Dash Pad Pros (Ultimate Rides) They used to be $595.00 plus $195 Core Now they are double that  :pullinghair: PolyGlas tires, Legendary Auto Interior seat covers, brake and fuel lines, AMD metal.....EVERYTHING is going up and up  :bigmoney: :crying:

As a consumer that sucks, but it is the way it works. I see so many posts about year long waits and even zero availability, supply-demand is the main driver of prices   :yessir:
Maybe we'll get back to where retailers have shelves full of stuff and they're dying for business causing prices to go back down, but I honestly doubt it.

With interest rates going up another 1.5% by Christmas, I think as money is harder to borrow and leverage, buying will slow and prices will have to come down.... but I am not holding my breath

Just shows you the vast difference one year can make...A 1971 Major project 340 Cuda = $30K or a running driving complete 1972 340 Cuda = $30K

Utterly ridiculous. Things like this are driving up the prices. $30K for a shell of a car? Sheet metal "looks" ok. But what about the pile of parts? What in there is in what condition? He only mentions the dash and console, but a distant pic of the dash and none of the console. I am not sure what a 71 340 is worth, but I don't think of it as highly desirable. It's not a 440, convertable, hemi, etc. How many miles on the motor? Does it run or need a complete rebuild? I know prices are driven up, but I couldn't imagine paying even 15K for it. Heck, I would feel guilty selling mine running (I'm almost there) for 15K. Though my 340 isn't orig and my sheet metal needed a lot of work which I did myself. Seems like you could by a running version of this car for under 30K.

Assuming that the options are backed up by the BCS, then:

$15K for the car
$5K for some of the parts etc
$10K for the right to restore a Curious Yellow '71 'Cuda 340 4-speed.

Yes, it's not a 440-6 or Hemi, but 340 usually trumps 383, 4-speed trumps auto, and high-impact colour trumps something more sedate.

You forgot the part where it's a 1971 Cuda, the most desirable muscle car on the planet....or so it seems  :))

 Ok deal at 30k, for a guy that can do all the work himself.
