In an effort to provide the most accurate battery cables to our customers and vendors, can anyone tell me if the 73 and 74 E-Body negative battery cable is different than the 70-72 E-Body small block negative battery cable.  I know that the 73 small block B-Body positive cable changed from the 71 to 72 application, but the parts books gives the same number, 2983 648, for the E-Body small block applications during the production run.  The 70-71 parts book shows the negative cable, 2983 778, to be a number 4 gauge and 23" in length.

I hate to build cables off of part numbers as we have found that the assembly line cables carry different part numbers and characteristics as from the over the counter NOS cables we have seen.  Any insight is appreciated.

Hmmm, not sure if my 74's cable is oem or not. I'll have to have a look and if it does look oem, I'll measure it and try to take a pic or two.

Thanks for your efforts, if it is an OEM cable, it may still have the small paper tag which has the part number printed on it.  That might give you a hint to the originality.

I have what I think is a OEM 1974 E-Body negative battery cable (October 1973 build date).  However, the part number doesn't match the parts book.  Let me know if you are interested.

I checked the 1973 Parts Book and it's a match.
