Fuel sending unit

That or the float may not be adjusted correctly, meaning the arm isn't bent correctly.  Take the float assembly out and re bend the arm, re-install and see if your reading changes.  My brand new sending unit/float only read 3/4s full when the tank was full.  Re-bent the rod and now it's accurate. Worth a try.

Does the orientation of the sending unit have anything to do with it?  Like if its turned then the arm wont swing up and down correctly?

As far as I know the sending unit is the original and never been out of the car, I've owned it for 24 years and have not driven it much for various reasons, I've had most everything on car fixed so I'm starting to drive it more and keeping track of miles on trip odometer is getting old. Basically I was referencing the cracked and broken float at the beginning of this thread, and the fact that I do have movement in gas gauge but not close to accurate.
