Ignition switch won't rotate back far enough to remove key

Nothing out of normal all the years had car. Today took car for ride and when shutting off, I can't rotate key enough to remove it. Makes hard contact between ignition off and key removal.  Any ideas ?

Might be your gearshift linkage has become misadjusted. Disconnect the linkage at the steering column under the hood, rotate the steering column lever until the key comes out of the ignition. Adjust linkage per the service manual.

Probably a 70 Cuda & the shift interlock linkage is removed  , just rotate the upper collar on the column to remove the key .

  Look at the bottom of the column, the first two sections have little notches on them, those two have to be lined up to remove the key...If you have all the correct 1970 column lock-out linkage in place, then the linkage will need adjustment as mentioned to get those notches lined up...

If you have a 70 and the lockout arm, at the bottom of the column, is in the correct position in park, you could very well have a broken tumbler spring in the ignition switch not allowing the key pin to move freely.

Engine compartment side. Looked at lower column and saw linkage hookup that I had never seen before.

Rotated it clockwise and was able to remove key. Is that for a column shift or automatic ?  As many damn times I've worked on the car (had it since '14), I can't believe I hadn't seen that. Now then, I bought the car with a 4-speed. Does all Barracuda come with that on the lower column, or has a different column been used ? Nothing surprises me anymore with this " ROTISSERIE RESTORED BY PROFESSIONALS !!! " Oh well, Good thing I love working on it.

ALL 1970 E Bodies have that column lever lock-out. With all the proper linkage in place, a manual car has to be in reverse, an auto car, either floor shifter or column shifter, has to be in park to remove the key.
