Yeah...the car is quiet, but at 2500 rpm for 20 mins, neighbors could get pissy.

So one question as I try to get this buttoned up...I installed the cam straight up, dot on the cam gear is at 6, dot on the crank gear is as 12.

I would assume that this puts the no 1 hole at TDC compression.  I just want to make sure I have the timing set right this time.  Right now I have the dist. set a little after the number one plug wire... the engine is sitting at TDC (or a litter before).

I just want to hit the key and have it start!!

Can you please post the specs on your cam?  I just wonder how big it is.  (lift and duration...)  Did you say that lifter was in the car for 20 years?  It didn't look like it had all that many miles on it.

I just bought a 340 Challenger, and will have to break in the new cam in a few weeks.

Thx.

Cam is a Lunati Voodoo, 702... specs can be found here:

nothing big.

The lifters that went bad were brand new as was the cam.  It failed on break in.

12 & 12 is #1 firing not 12 & 6 if intake valve on #3 cyl is open you are on #1 firing
I would have the damper about 20* before TDC & the reluctor close to lined up with the pick up
first get the RPM up then start to adjust timing & lower the rpm as you get the timing up , basically advance the timing until the rpm quits rising
you can play with the idle mixture screws to adjust the fuel , if it want more fuel at 2500 rpm but less at idle it wants bigger jets

@Chryco Psycho that makes sense,  why would the cam be installed in the middle of the process, combustion as opposed to intake.

That would be the main mistake I made last time.

I can't imagine there should be any issue with rotating the engine by hand to get it to compression.  I used lots of assembly lube I can not imagine that would wear off turning by hand.

Chryco Psycho

Fr sure you can rotate it by hand , just check the valve position

Cudajason

Thanks @Chryco Psycho,  just went out and checked, sure enough no 1 was on the intake. As I rotated it with he plug out you could feel the rush of air as the piston came up.

I reset the dist so its on 1

I am guessing this was my issue last time.

@Topcat got the oil filter this morning.

Already to fire!!!

Fingers crossed!

Hit the key and I got no spark.

I have fuel, it turned over fine, bit not even a hint of fire. I only hit the key long enough to turn ot over a few times.

So how do verify spark and whats next.

Well she sure was ticking at the start...lifters needed to fill up and it sure made me nervous, but it quieted down after a min or so and got better the longer it ran.

20 min at 2000 rpm and 35 degrees advance. Had to get the hose on the rad because she got above 190, but I think its ok!!!

Video of it running...missed the fire up!

Second one is right before I idled it down to 1000 rpm.  Sounds strong to me!
