Yeah,,I think I am through the biggest hurdle, proper cam break in with no apparent issues.

I am thinking about next steps...

I think its drop the break in oil, new filter..but it only has 20 mins run time on it???  Do I really need to change it?

I think I should change out the valve springs now, only running the outer springs for break in.  I don't think I need to drive it any distance with just the outer springs.

I just don't want to screw it up again, and would like to put some miles on it next weekend, so I find myself second guessing everything at this point!!!

I would leave the oil for 4-500 miles , but I would put int he extra valve springs now

Well fired the car up last night...it started, sounded good...that is all I got done...crazy at work again.

My son's last day at school is tomorrow, so I plan to pull the car out and drive him to school for his last day, which had been our tradition since he started school.

I figure the 5 min drive there and back will not bee too hard on the inner valve springs.

That is very cool. I sort of did the same thing with my daughter. She graduated from hs a couple weeks ago. She drove to school in the same car her mom drove in hs (albeit much nicer).
Not an E so I am only showing her happiness.
They will remember those memories forever.

How is it running ??

Seems to be running good. Went about 5 miles today. No tickity tick!

It ran a little hotter the I would like... 190 - 200 idling in traffic, but its a super hot day!

Looks like its on the swapping the valve springs...again.

All prepped for tomorrow!!!   :wrenching:

Sigh...this is getting old.

Any tips that I may have missed the fist time I did this. With no pressure on the lifters and cam I would imagine its had to damage anything.

Last time I went cylinder by cylinder just letting the air pressure more the pistons down each time. I did not worry about finding TDC each time. Could that cause a problem?

Not likely Jason as long as you don't drop a valve in the process, since you're not altering the timing. Let's not go there, eh? Are your installed heights all done?

no problem at all , air pressure will move the piston to the bottom as you change springs
The other way I have done it is using a soft rope fed in the spark plug hole & rotate the engine to pinch the rope against the valves

The "piston at the top of it's stroke" method hasn't failed me yet even with low compression(.055 down) pistons. Hard to lose a valve that way.

Had good results with Rope method, worked well for me. Air made me nervous as CP noted why.

I often had no compressed air where I was working so the soft rope worked great  :bigthumb:
