Clutch temperament

Its been so long since I drove my car prior to the mods and reassembly that I can't remember how the clutch acted.  As I stated in the "basic clutch info" thread, I'm suppose to have a 10.95 disc but ended up putting in a 10.5 just to get going at the time.  I seem to remember that when letting the clutch out it would pull the car forward much like it would in any other much lighter car to where you could almost ride it out without hitting the gas and can get going. So am I remembering that correctly or is the car just too heavy for that? AND/OR is continued use of the smaller disc just killing itself? I hate hills because the clutch just doesn't hold the car as well as it should. I almost have to burn it for it to go on hills. Something just doesn't seem right. Maybe my pressure plate is ng from sitting for so long?

So it should be able to pull the car along pretty decently then yes?

Once you let off the clutch pedal the thing should be locked up pretty good.  If you have the clutch pressed in and start to release it, the car should start to slowly move forward.  You might have to give the car a little gas pedal to increase the RPM's as the load it transferred to the engine. 

When you release the clutch, where does it feel like it grabs and locks up?

Did you add a big cam to the engine? What gear ratio are you running?

Releasing the clutch slowly you should barely have to touch the gas , release somewhat faster touch the gas & it should drive right out , fast release with some throttle & the tires should be complaining / talking to you
Different compounds used for the disc will make it feel a lot different too  Kevlar is great , Feramic is like an on off switch
I f it is slipping it is damaging the flywheel  , I would get a B&B Long from Mcleod with a Kevlar disc in there & Make sure you resurface the flywheel it will have hot spots & maybe cracks from heat

Lets see if I can answer all the stuffs.
When releasing slow I'll feel the clutch grab and it will move the car slightly forward without touching the gas but never enough to clutch out and only if perfectly flat any incline and ill have to gas it.  I do have a big/er cam. I know what I ordered but with the issues I had with the shop I cant be sure it is what it was supposed to be. I am running 3:55s. Anything less than 1000rpm idle and its a battle to get it going.  Chryco, I dont think it will handle a fast release. I am almost afraid to try to launch the car the way I used to.

The cam / low vacuum will have a big effect on the launch .
They only use the 10.5 "in slant 6 & 318 cars , it is not just 1/2" extra but it is at the outer edge so 1/2" away from the center is a lot more leverage & significantly more surface area , bottom line you really need to install a better clutch soon .

Roger that. So I dont see the any Mcleod bb or bb longs on the their site or summit/jegs. I suppose that I'll have to call for those?

Mcleod doesn't make the straight BB anymore but the long/BB is superior anyway I think. I like Mcleod stuff, haven't had a problem with them ever. I always run the 10.95 stuff too. I tried a Zoom and ended up taking it out, I don't like CF either but others have good luck with them.
Does yours hold in high gear on a hill okay or slip a bit?

Once I get going its "fine" if I normal drive. It's mainly the launch from stop that is the issue. Though it slips when high rpm fast shifting. I can probably just get the 10.95 disc and be fine but at this point I might as well get a whole new setup.

McLeod 75238  Says all the right things but all the picture show a non bb pressure plate. Same as 75138. Can anyone confirm these being the correct parts?

Are you sure the engine is running correctly?  Big cams will change the way an engine drives.

I don't have any of the atalogs here  I would give them a quick call
