Forgive me as a lot of you learned what I ask advice about in junior high.

I have a lot of firewall gaskets that I'm installing on parts or will install and I was wondering what kind of goop I should use?

Will this work?

Or should I go buy some 100% silicone or something at Home Depot?

Thanks

#M weather strip cement is most commonly used , i use the black variety
a lot of those gaskets do not use any sealer & just pinch between the part being bolted to the firewall area .

Petty sure most of those gaskets do not use a sealant.  The gasket is the seal.  What one in particular are you thinking of using sealant on?

The steering column seal at the bottom where there's a plate I had to scrape a bunch of goop off to get the gasket off so I thought it would need to be put back on with some goop????

Shouldn't be anything other than a gasket there. I use just tad of contact cement to hold the gasket in place on the plate. That way you don't have to fiddle with it and try to line everything up when your installing the column. Somebody prior to you owning the it must have put that sealant your dealing with on the car.

:iagree: Just a little weatherstrip adhesive to keep the gasket in place while you install the column.

heater box to cowl usually has adhesive

On mine, the heater box seal was self adhesive to the box itself.  Dry up onto the cowl.

Thanks everyone. As usual, overthinking everything.
