I used Permatex Aviation on my heavy truck high pressure diesel fuel lines and oil lines. Great stuff. No more teflon here.

Fair enough. I've drilled and tapped holes before, helicoiled them...just not on anything this expensive. I have to keep reminding myself that there's no telling how many shade tree mechanics have been into this motor.

Going to water it is better to use a Timesert rather than a helicoil

Makes sense. I used an 8mm SHCS and teflon tape. Should hold up, but I guess I'll find out soon enough.

Good to hear you got it fixed.    I just hate the days when if not for bad luck I would have no luck at all.

I remember changing out a water pump on a V6 Mercury Capri.
9 bolts, 2 of which are 1/2 inch longer.
Put the longer bolt back in, in the wrong hole, and cracked
the front aluminum engine casing.  $400 in 1977
was a lot of money!

Not trying to jinx anyone , just personally cannot remember a time where everything is not going wrong as fast as I can fix it , this AM I topped up a battery as the water level was low , fire it up & it is exploding the caps off of the battery .... WTH   
If bad things happen in 3s I feel blessed when it is limited to 3 / day , I am working on my second set of 3 bad decades .

I just have awful, awful, luck. Anyway, the freeze plug didn't hold up. I'm going fill up the whole opening with gasket maker. if that doesn't work them I'm going to have to change the freeze plug.

Even if it works for now, it will start to leak at the most inconvenient time (just ask Murphy), change the plug, it's easy.

I agree but which freeze plug , you may have to pull the head to change it
