Very low miles on my freshly new remanufactured engine, 360
After a short breaking. I noticed that I was adding oil to top it off, just carried on to the next oil change, difficult to average but I would say a quart for 1,500 MI.
No drips or leaks and on top of that I'm not burning any oil out the back any other chips or ideas of where this oil is going?? Thanks in advance

If it's not on the ground it's going out the tailpipe. Probably burning up before you can see it.

Yes, if it aint hitting the ground, then its being burned up in the engine.   But, to me, 1 qt every 1500 miles is nothing to worry about.    Its a remanufactured engine so its tolerances might be a little loose...but..again with reasonable amount...

Not oil but a friend had a brake fluid loss, none on the ground or inside the car, he called me weeks later and said the fluid was leaking into the air brake booster

I had a 68 Ford XL 500 that also had a mysterious brake fluid leak.   Took me many hours of investigating till i found that the brake line running to the rear brakes had a leak.   No fluid on the ground because the leak was directly shooting fluid when under braking pressure, into one of the structural holes in the frame and the rust was absorbing it !!!   New brake line fixed that problem.

I hesitate to mention this as there was some evidence of a leak on the bellhousing but never more than a drop observed on the ground yet I was adding a quart every couple of tanks of gas, maybe 500-miles, after a head swap. Thought I had a rear main seal failure.  Had not experienced significant oil consumption previously so decided to investigate further so put the front end up on ramps and slid under the car with the motor running & discovered a trickle of oil coming down the back side of the block onto the bellhousing. Found that the intake manifold gasket at the rear was out of place.  My theory is that sitting level hardly any oil was escaping but at speed it was being pushed to the rear of the intake.  Properly installed gasket solved the issue.  :alan2cents:

Great responses guys thank you?!

Did your remanufactured engine come with heads or was it just a short block?  Worn, cracked valve guide seals can result in oil being burned.  Also worn valve guides can also result in excessive oil consumption that is not evident by oil on the ground or smoking out the tail pipe.  Just a thought.   :alan2cents:

Fresh rebuilds take a number of miles to seat the rings & seal up , I would not be worried .
What about the PCV system , I assume you have one connected & working properly ....

Caparco

Yes that's hooked up, I don't want to jump the gun either, and the only competent engine guy near me is a year back with busy! Maybe I can do this myself take the head off and investigate what occurred at least to see if there's any excessive damage like you mentioned earlier to the Pistons and whatnot, do you think this is in the scope of a sidewalk mechanic like myself I mean armed with my highly detailed manual, and of course you on this fourm LOL

Yes it did come with the heads all attached, but not the intake or exhaust obviously, great thought by the way I think you're onto something for sure

You could do a compression test , assuming there is no noise I would just run it hard for a bit & see if it seats in .

Caparco

Thanks guys.. I'm making that attempt now but I still have to do some more test I must not be doing it w right some cylinders have zero compression some have 30 one has 90,
Sorry little new to this test.. I think a lot has to do with the strength of the battery doesn't give a good turnover we'll give a bad reading I assume but there's no way a piston can have zero compression of course "you know" FORD... lol
I'll get a little more experience and try to get a tally
Thanks!

My testing adventures were not so successful , or dare I say, promising, from firewall to grill starting on the driver side I have 115 ,0 ,110,0 passenger side I have
10,80,55,0
I made sure I had plenty of juice this time, but
something just doesn't sound right, it sounds more like a continuous whine, then a chugging crank, yes I understand I have no spark plugs or gas but, maybe it's my mind playing tricks on me but I think it sounded more normal with the good readings I got can't say for sure though, I think I did it pretty well even this time around. And yes I did put a cap full of oil in the zero cylinders, to no avail, wish I could of sent a audio if you attachments so you guys can hear it for yourself.
I should probably mention that all the started to occur about a week after I got my car back from the transmission guy that was supposed to fix the flywheel it was supposedly cracked, but he didn't find anything like that he just said they did a horrible job with the install of the engine missing bolts etc, etc,
The only thing he really did to it was fix it up a little bit and put a piece in for the drive shaft, anyway a week after that "as beside myself as I was!"
my car was struggling changing gears has never happened in 50 years with that transmission, he did mention to me that the third year was going soon so come winter we'll plan a rebuild in the coming months but,  later I found a puddle of transmission fluid under the car,so obviously they did a shitty job with the gasket, Oy Vey!!
But this continuous wine that I was hearing made me think of these flywheel issues, can't understand how a refap engine could all of sudden go up South it's such a short time it was running beautiful for many weeks after my nitial breaking,
Just one day it up and started pinging and smoke shooting out the hood, oil shot out of the breather on to the wires and plugs below it and the rest is history small fire with a nasty smell! It's just somehow has to be related cuz now all of a sudden I'm getting bad readings from all over the engine!!

Puzzled & Pissed
Yeah I guess I'm in a bit of a pickle too if I wanted to add another P

Thanks guys

This is really weird! It'll be interesting to see what comes of it.
