I have stock valve covers on my 340. I changed my weiand 8007 intake for a Edlebrock Air Gap and now I have some oil (not much) that builds up on the passenger side.

Any idea where it may be coming from?

The bolts on the intake are nice a tight, I see no dripping from anywhere.  Could it be leaking/spraying a little from the valve covers?

Its not a ton of oil, just enough to make me wonder.

Thanks

PS the weather is nice down south, been driving around a lot, having a lot of fun.  So glad I own a e-body, very fun!

Where is the oil?  Can you post a photo of it?

often the oil will work its way up the threads if there is no sealer on the bolts
ALso retorque it as the different  expansion rates will loosen it

 :iagree: use sealer

Go back over everything and re-torque, oil has a way of weeping from the most inconspicuous places.  :alan2cents:

Ha, ha! But don't overtighten. These parts are so old now that you also have to carefully inspect around bolt holes for any cracks in the sheetmetal. I also always put a straight edge on all valvecover gasket surfaces to check for straightness. Usually it ends up taking 30 minutes with a hammer and dolly to straighten them before use.

I placed a pen near the leak.  What's odd is that there's no dripping down from any of the bolts or anywhere else.  It's like a magic puddle just appears on the passenger side

Are you sure it's oil and not dried fuel?

Can you wipe your finger near the bottom of the intake bolts near where you are talking about?

Maybe you are getting some coming up through the bolts.

Dried fuel can look like oil too.

I've had this happen and it was the intake bolts.  Take them out, 1 at a time, spread some sealer on the threads and re-torque.

It smells like oil and looks like oil. There seems to be no dripping from the bolts.

I'll check the carb as maybe it is gas leaking.

Thanks for your help.

The intake bolts would be easy to take off one at a time and re-seal.  :bigthumb:  Easy fix and it will tell you if it's them or not.

You guys are really good at this. Even though I couldn't see it I did find some oil from one of the intake manifold bolts when using my finger. I will pull them and put some rtv on them.  Dang, you guys are good.

I'd use that white pipe sealant.  You can get it in a small container with a brush on the lid.  It's designed to seal threads.

I'd also verify your valve covers are sitting flat on the rail. I have seen intakes that protrude just a bit above the rail and it prevents good seal by the gasket.
