We have 3 cars, 70 U code Challenger, 70 U code Charger, and 71 V code Challenger.  All 3 have Saginaw pumps. All 3 have 3 spoke pulleys. Both Challenger pulleys have about 7 inch outside diameters.  The Charger's is about 6 inches. Which is correct?  And any insight on what the difference is about.  Not 100% sure any of them are original to the cars.

Ahhhhh ... that was going to be my question...
I've taught you everything you know....but I haven't taught you everything I know....

No AC. Both Challengers 4 speeds, Charger auto, I don't know if that would make a difference.  Did AC cars have a different pulley size?

Cuda Cody

The only thing I could think of was AC might make the pulley different.  Are they all numbers matching set ups?  :notsure:  Not sure why one would be different unless it's a B-Body thing?

Does the car have  a gear package? If the engine spins faster they use a smaller pulley to slow the pump...

Wouldn't a smaller pulley speed up the pump.      :notsure:

Yeah, my brain isn't up to speed yet this morning, sorry....    Well I could agree it depends on which pulley..... But not Brain Fart...  AKA cerebral flatulence

The pulley from my original 1970 383 Challenger w/ AC is 6 7/8" diameter.

Are they matching numbers?  Our projects usually come home in boxes. But the boxes for the Charger did have the numbers engine and auto trans.  Most of the parts seem to be date coded to the car, but who knows. The Charger is an 8 3/4 355 rear, the 2 Challengers are track pack cars. Looking further today, we noticed that the 2 70 cars both had 2 groove 6 1/2 inner and 7 1/4 outer crank pulleys.  I always thought they were the standard pulleys. The 71 has a 2 groove, but both are the same size,6 1/2.  The ICCA B Body book says 340 2 groove crank  pulleys are the same size, but doesn't give the size.  The book also says that 383 440 power steering crank pulleys are single pulleys with the outer pulley smaller than the inner pulley :notsure: I am quickly losing faith in the ICCA manual.   To further complicate things, we took the crank pulley off a 318 to put on our 340TA engine.  It looked just like the 70 big block pulleys.  It even had the extra small hole in it that we have been told is the way to tell the difference between external balanced HP balancer bolt patterns and internal balanced balancer pattern. It had a notch by one hole, which we have done also so they interchange. Is the pulley bolt pattern the same between a 440 non HP balancer and a 340? Than measuring the 340 pulley the outer groove was only 7 inch diameter.  Have I confused everyone yet?  I know we are being way to anal about this, but could some of you with 440HP and 340 engines with power steering measure your pulleys just so we can maybe get an idea of what was original and if their was options.  I will try to post some pictures but we hopefully will be able to start harvest tomorrow so I don't know when I will be able to check back in.

The two sizes pulley is the normal 69-71 non-a/c crank pulley.... The pulley on the 71 might be 67.... I'll post a few photos.. You decide... 2nd & 5th photos are 67...

Gary

Yup, it looks like we have a 67 pulley.  Thanks.  Now can someone send a picture of what  340TA pulleys look like, both crank and fan with power steering.

FWIW that 67 pulley while not often searched is a rare item & I know when I let mine go it ended a two year search by a man with a 67 Coronet R/T vert....
