I don't think so? Depends on your definition of socialist I guess. I consider Canada a socialist country. Higher standard of living than most.
Sweden is socialist. Not a bad place to live. Neither 'deny' people any privileges. You work for it, you earn it, you get it.  Now if you meant Communist, like China, I completely agree.

It works that way when a country goes hard left...or... hard right. The extremes in either case don't work well for the general population.

It is. Socialist doesn't mean dictatorship. We are a democracy. Our Liberal party (in power right now) would be sort like your democrats, but lefter, and our Conservative party..(name only - they do not behave like conservatives)...is kind of like your Republicans but half way to being Democrats. We don't really have a right wing party. The NDP party is to the left of the left Liberals.

Were you a prior Military or currently serving?
Have you utilized the VA HCS?


If not, then you really don't have a right to Quip about the VA system.
Didn't serving for our country mean anything?

You really need to spend a day at a Major VA Hospital before mouthing off on how bad it is or not managed to your expectations.
I go to the VA Palo Alto Health Care System and I cannot complain. They take care  of us here very well here.

I had a serious Flu that went to  Pneumonia and then turned to COPD last year.
They were loyal to me doing everything possible to get me going back to being well again.

They treat our veterans with Dignity, respect, and give extraordinary effort to care for their Veterans.

No, no, and about a month ago.

I work with dozens of veterans with a much different experience than yours. I have an uncle who has gone through hell with the VA. Can't get an appointment and can't get seen. My grandfather had the same problem. The people I work with have such a hard time getting appointments that when they ask for time off for one, it doesn't get denied no matter how much work we have. It's the kind of things I don't want to see happen with the private health care system.

While yall's experiences have been different, my opinion is formed by what I have personally seen.

I see what happened. Topcat thought my gripe was with taxpayers paying for the VA. That's nowhere close to what I meant.
I was strictly referring to not wanting to pay for illegals. I'm more than happy to pay for veteran healthcare and think more should be done to support vets as they come home and deal with the effects of war.  Unfortunately, I have been thoroughly unimpressed by what I have seen from the VA.

And Topcat's link kind of reinforces what I was getting at with not wanting the private sector to be government run. It's so bad that vets are going to the private sector.

I believe, in Canada you have to be a citizen to vote. Which takes, I think, 5 years. Not just show a piece of gov't ID?
It would make sense that only those with American citizenship could vote in the USA?    Or am I crazy?

When I went in to vote in the last election all that was required was a drivers licence and 1 piece of mail with the same address as your drivers licence. When I questioned this on how this proves your a citizen I got the deer in the headlight look and a reply of oh I never thought of that.....

Is California still a part of the USA? I haven't been there in years. In the last year, I've been to Arizona, Nevada, Oregon and I live in Washington, but I didn't step foot in California. I kept thinking I needed my passport to cross into there.

You have to be a US citizen to legally vote.  How they vet people who register to vote, I don't know.  But with pushes to allow things like allowing people to register the day of an election, I'm sure ineligible people get registered sometimes.
I've read of people who were green card holders who ran into trouble when applying to become US citizens, when a check of the records found they'd previously registered to vote.  Overzealous employees at the DMV had encouraged them to register to vote when they were getting drivers licenses and they were confused by the employees actions.
With the left trying to get everyone to vote in order to stack the deck for their candidates, I'm sure the situation will get worse before it gets better.

That is to make sure you are who you say you are on the voters list, which is a list of eligible Canadian citizens. They still have to match your name up with the electorate list.

Nope , My friend worked for elections canaduh in the last election , when Brad brought up his concerns about citizenship & marking the ballot with a pencil I got the same deer in the headlights response , there si no valisation of citizenship & yes they culd be erasing the pencil mark & changing ballots
