Lately, I've been toying with the idea of selling my 64 Corvette. Awesome car but I don't drive it much anymore since getting my ragtop Barracuda. I don't see that changing either!

So, I've had good luck with eBay in the past but I'm not crazy about the way they've changed their selling platform. Classic Cars looks promising but i have no experience with them.

What's the best route anymore? I definitely know how to make a good ad but I want to reach a broad audience and find a serious buyer.

I'd entertain the idea of trading for a cool Mopar but I don't want to get bombarded with silly offers of stuff not worth having. Can't imagine trades ever work out very well.

I wish I knew, is it even possible for an individual to sell a mid to high value car himself anymore, or are car brokers and auctions the only way now?

I suppose one plus of Classic Cars is the ad continues until sold. At $50k, people aren't eager to hand over money

hardtop vette?
Have you looked into Hemmings?

70 Challenger Lover

Not yet. Is it better than Classic Cars then?

Looking at Hemmings...it does seem like the higher end cars sell here and perhaps reach a pretty broad worldwide audience. Has anyone ever listed a car there? All the online ads I see contain very short written descriptions. I was hoping to include more detail on the restoration rather than less. Does Hemmings limit the written descriptions?

carsonline.com for an ad.

Ebay can be a good advertising tool since people still look there. Almost like a daily ritual. I have listed my car there but never sold it.

Hemmings would have the right audience for your car so perhaps less hits but more qualified hits.

Bring a trailer: I know alot of people have migrated over to this platform. Best thing is to go on and search your model and see what kind of prices they are fetching. That will be the best indication of how good that platform is. I have a buddy who is obsessed with 80's cars and he always gets good coin for them on BAT. I know nothing about corvettes.

Since you are selling private, I would still go with craigslist or whatever you have locally. Here in Canada we have Kijiji. Albeit the most i have ever sold a car for is 35k, it came from a lead through Kijiji. This lead was clearly researched because he googled the VIN and saw all my other ads. My uncle sold his 60K mustang there too. It will be annoying ignoring idiots.

Last one I do, since i go to them anyways, is to throw a for sale ad on the car when I attend car shows. I make a larger one that goes in the window that repeats whats in my ad, and drives them to go visit my ad.

Whatever combo you choose, most importantly is the description is accurate, honest and fulsome. Make sure the wording from ad to ad is consistent.

Selling sucks. Good luck.
Someday I will have a J0b.

carsonline.com, hemmings , classic car,  are the 3 web site i'm consulting for buying .ebay gives exposure but ,for me when a car (high end ) is on ebay it's killing the value of it.

After looking at these, I don't think I want an auction. People with $50k to spend don't make quick decisions. It needs to be an ad that will be up a while so leaning towards Classic Cars and Hemmings, maybe Cars online.

I just looked at bring a trailer. That's probably a great site for buyers but maybe not so good for sellers unless you just want it gone. Craigslist is for bottom feeders from what I've seen. I've listed lots of things other than cars on there and had pretty lousy results. The things I did get rid of like hoods or wheels were at 10% of real value just to be gone with it.

I just sold a 2015 Honda CRV on Facebook Marketplace. It sold in one day for nearly what I listed it for. Facebook has a very large audience and it didn't cost anything to list it. You should at least check it out.
