I always found that getting a new pet helped ease the pain.....they bring a ton of love with them!  They are not "replacements" for what you lost...just new memory makers...

I agree: All pets have unique personalities. If you don't feel ready for another dog I would say to trust your feelings and wait.

Like everyone has said, they all have their own personalities. I was the exact same way as you are right now. My wife was looking and wanting one and I knew I would compare the 2 and the new one could never fill the shoes. We lost ours at 7 years old which i felt was way to young, and like you i didn't want that to happen again. Well we got a new one 1 1/2 years later. I do compare them to a point, I think it's impossible not to but it's been mostly good comparison on  how they are much alike in certain ways. When our first was a pup we had no kids, so he was our kid. We now have 2 boys, a 3 year old and a one year old along with a 6 month old pup but wouldn't change it. You might know when it's time but you also might be told when its time. I thought it was too early for me but I give in to my wife (even though I knew I would be doing the training, walking, picking up crap on the yard, disciplining etc. Lol) I think it would be 10 years later and I still would have said it was too early, just to not have to go through it again.  But I am having great memories with our pup and our kids just love him and he loves them just as much. Lots of smiles and laughs

I agree with all of the above. Each one of our dogs had their own unique personalities.
You'll love a new one just the same. I still think of all my past buddies and will never forget them. And I'm sure you won't either.

Don't deny yourself of the joy and love a new family member will bring you. Not a replacement but a new beginning for both of you.

Good luck Brad.

I am sorry to say Hurley crossed the rainbow bridge tonight. I am fighting back tears as I type. I will miss her greatly.
We knew this would be her last weekend with us. We fed her all her favorite foods, belly rubs galore, kisses and hugs.

My friend, my buddy, Rest in peace..... :andyangel:

Thank you all for the kind words. She is being cremated and we'll have her ashes on the mantel.

IRON MAN

I feel your sorrow. I visited my best buddy today. He (Kaiser) is four feet under at his favorite spot in the far end of the back yard. It has been five months now since his passing. Last month, I purchased another Rottie (Kensi). I noticed her a few days ago laying on his grave. I think she is putting two and two together. A good thing.

I've posted pics of our current dog "Ralphie" here before.
This is the pic of our Toby-Girl, a family member we had for 17 years prior to Ralphie
Had to finally put her down; always tough
