What are your thoughts about having the licence plate readable in a video? We did most of the footage this weekend for another video and the question was raised as to whether we should edit out the licence plate. It would be a huge undertaking unless someone knows how to do it easily. With privacy rules is there any real concern with a viewer being able to see the licence number?

Unless you're doing something illegal I wouldn't bother removing it.

You know what? I agree with "goody". I've taken so many pictures and I've seen all kinds of people at various car gatherings taking pictures and videos of the car in the past 30 years and never once thought of taking off or hiding my license plates. I still have the dealership plate surrounds on the plates too. So they even know where I originally bought the car.  Thanks,   Al

I would remove it .
I am sure it is not hard top track the plate to an address & take the car

I think people are paranoid. Unless a car owner is going to spin off their license plates every time they park the car what is the difference? What's to stop someone from taking a photo of the car as it drives down the street, then getting their "contact" at the DMV to get the address and then coming over late at night to rape your dog and take the car?

Not to seem defensive, but I believe that's more difficult to do these days than in previous years. Don't you need a court order for dmv to release info?

Thanks for your input guys. I do appreciate it.
We should have a cool video forthcoming. Still a bit more to shoot and then hours of editing. It'll be a while.

It's really hard to get a name or address from just a License Plate number. About impossible in California. Only the police can do it. And I believe it's traceable when they do it. They passed strict laws after that actress was killed by a stalker from a Lic #. I think every other state has followed. Or about every state.

Try it out yourself.  Try to find site that will look a person up from just a license plate. Try plugging in your license plate.

Now with just your name..... you can find out all kinds of scary stuff.... a license plate is the last thing to worry about.

I see some videos always blur out the plates like in Nicks Garage videos, but most others don't.  I'm not sure what the difference is between posting a video/picture of a cool car with the plates visible and just driving around with your plates visible.

If someone can do it "legally" please find this one for me so I can buy it back.
I tried and was told only law enforcement could do it and for good reason only.

Agreed that this is nearly impossible in CA, however that has not always been the case.  Back in the day you could search DMV by VIN with wildcards.  I know someone did this for Superbees by just searching WM21* and WM23* - result is that there is a Superbee site that has one of my Superbees listed by VIN on their site.
