need help decoding D500

I don't know how to decode this tag.
I don't even know what year this truck is.
I can't find the vin tag either.
Is the serial number on the tag the actual vin number?

yes, VIN upper left - 1968-'69 ?? - D500 ** 361cu.in. ** 4-speed NP435 ** 175" wheel base *** axle and truck weight ratings etc.

looks like they have "normal" VINs starting in 1970

Where is the year on the tag you posted?

I purchased the truck above. Unfortunately about a week before purchase the local kids went through a huge car stock and busted all the windows out of 20 something cars. This one included. I just needed a big one with a pto to make a winch truck. There are about another 5 that I can purchase but I don't quite understand the years and what is compatible.

The turn signals on this truck have 68 on them. So I assumed this is a 1968.

the pre-'70 VIN doesn't have a "VIN digit" as far as I can tell - all the '68 to '71 trucks are going to look like yours, so it is a 1968 or 1969

158 : 15 = D500 & 8 = V8
1968 model year started with chassis # 1780000
VS
458 : 45 = C500 & 8 = V8
1966 model year started with chassis # 1548000

Here are the only pictures I have of this truck. I purchased this so I didn't need pics at the moment.

Would you be interested in seeing the other trucks that are available?

I know there aren't many people looking on here at the Big D trucks.

I have not seen the C series.
Is that just the earlier trucks?
