Neighbor bought a Drone

Ya know, I like some of the cool shots & video's I've seen shot by drones.. But they are generally shot on streets & parks, open areas.... The neighbor down the street has been repeatedly hovering over my backyard, If he flew over & kept going I wouldn't care but in the past week he's been hovering for 5-10 minutes at a time & he's done it three times that I know of & I was out of town part of last week.....  Much as I'd like to do a little target practice the idea of a prison cell doesn't appeal to me... A couple neighbors have already talked to him about it but apparently he doesn't care.... Cops won't get involved.... Any thoughts?

I'd be pretty pizzed. Too bad the cops or bylaw guys won't talk common sense and decency to him. Anything I can think of would only escalate the situation probably.

It's a tough one.  I read where CA has tried to pass laws incriminating such acts as violations of privacy - but they didn't get voted in. 

I used to fly RC planes. And their controls are on regulated frequencies. I would imagine so are drones.  May be a nice little project if your into electronic shit to build a jammer.  Really wouldn't be that hard actually.  Just make sure you "down" it over someone else's property.  Be covert.

You might try calling the FAA to see if they can help.  Track down your closest FSDO and give them a call.  It appears there are 4 FSDOs in CA but I don't know which is closest to you.  If nothing else, drones are supposed to be registered and maybe this guy hasn't licensed his.
As a pilot and CFI, I am not a fan of the FAA.  Some truly horrible excuses of human beings work there as inspectors.  But there are some good people there too.  Whatever the case, it's certainly worth a try.

Go to the SWAT store and rent a gun that shoots a net for trapping things. Bring her down...see if he has the balls to knock on your door to get it back.....of course...return it in pieces...

Buy your own drone and hover it by his windows every day around bed time.   

Buy a net gun.   yes, expensive, but it sure would prove a point. 

How about a bb gun?   Or a boomerang?   

Throw tennis balls at it.  Will knock it out of the sky if you hit a propeller.  But not a deadly weapon at all.

What altitude when he is hovering? Smoke bombs? Water canons? Aim laser lights? Reflecting mirrors? Problem is you have to be home when he fly by.

Get one yourself and hover over his place.

From the sounds of it, this drone has a camera/lens since he isn't standing there flying it. Get one of the cheap laser pointers and aim it at the lens which will in effect blind him and he will have to move off. Works for commercial aircraft, will work for a drone. For me, it would be shot down as I live in the county where shooting is legal, however I realize this isnt an option for everyone.

If you are really dedicated, you can research signal jammers as most drones operate on specific frequencies; it is possible to jam them and thus the pilot loses control of the drone. If its a high end drone, they have a automatic "return to base" program that flies the drone back to where it started if it loses signal, but at least its gone.

Good read.....Live within 5 miles of an airport??  I personally have not delt with the situation....however, there is something on them flying close to your house...Ill ask our drone operator...we have one for the PD....He has his pilots license...

Looks like a neighbor took it out with a garden hose this morning...   Cops got called, the guy is making threats.... Guess he doesn't get that he was in the wrong....  If someone hit your drone with a garden hose you were definitely in his space...

I like the laser idea. Then let him come to you and complain about it, he won't. Doing open header burnouts beside his house etc. is only going to make things worse.
I hate rules and regulations but unfortunately idiots like this bring them on.
