Just post a pic of your fender tag(s). Should be on there.

What is the purpose of the small metal tag on the valve assembly? Mine says "429" but that number doesn't appear to match any of the numbers on the gearbox.  :notsure:

a complete unmolested box will probably have a cast date, a machining/assembly date & a inspection/test date (or similar & this was probably different year-to-year & at different steering box plants)

429 = assembled/inspected 42nd week of 1969 mid-October
409 = assembled/inspected 40th week of 1969 early-October

This is the steering box that came out of my 70 LA built 383 car . I'm wondering if it's the original unit

@Mopar5 it's probably original to the car but it is ~8-weeks earlier than would be suggested by the other examples in this thread
cast   9169   Tuesday 9/16/69
assembled/inspected  449  44th week of 1969 (1st week of November)
car "scheduled"   223   Monday 2/23/70

they didn't practice any "first in-first out" inventory practices sometimes parts get a little "OLD"

the pressure hose also has a date stamped on it - from a 11/69 built 440+6 Superbird  :takealook:

7-digit part number:   2891078
5-digit vendor code:   95165
4-digit date code:   308 9   308th day of 1969  =  Tuesday November 4, 1969

& the power steering cooler (SAGINAW) from the same 440+6 Superbird

2 dates   :thinking:  assembled & tested  ??   :dunno:

5-digit vendor code:   21042
4-digit date code:   3179   317th day of 1969 = Thursday 11/13/69
4-digit date code:   3219   321st day of 1969 = Monday 11/17/69
