Taking money out of the equation , where in the USA would you live ?

That changes everything.  When you put money back on the table, it's hard to beat Texas.  Great weather, tax friendly, and lots of affordable housing.  Partner, I could totally see myself living in Texas.  Yes sir.   

It looks like @Cuda Cody plans to live in AZ or TX and yet, those weren't US spots I planned to live; so, it looks like we have some things to settle up on! 

Now that I'm thinking about it, I just need three things within an hour's drive 1. the ocean 2. plenty of green space/nature for outdoor activities 3. a wine region- is that too much to ask?  I do love the PNW- proximity to ocean, wine, mtns, we have seasons, etc. If taxes weren't what they are, I could see living in several California towns, like Monterey, Santa Cruz and San Luis Obispo. Still, it looks like I may need to be okay with 2 of my 3 requirements, move to TX and keep my marriage intact!   

It's the heat that gets tough after awhile, long summers of 90*+

I have two sisters and both fled away, one to Portland and the other to Reno.  Neither plans to move back to Texas.  I love it for now, but sometimes wish we were alittle further North to avoid the strings of 100*+ days.

Does the heat levels change depending where your at in Texas? How is the humidity levels? Here when it gets 90-100 it's almost always with high humidity levels, which I too can't take for long.  We don't have A/C...

I've never experienced this " dry heat" before? Maybe someday?  I'd guess the nearer you are to the coast it gets humid though?

Not really. Nothing like Georgia humidity! Xegnome's mom had a house right on the coast in Rockport. We would go down there all the time to go fishing. The weather down there is perfect! Hot, but that ocean breeze was wonderful. Never hot and sticky...just hot. The family is still mad that she sold that house.

Carmel, Big Sur, Cambria, Pismo, Morro Bay All good choices, can't beat the climate, never colder then 40 degrees, never warmer than mid 80's... Ocean breeze along with ocean views....  You just gotta ignore the politics...  Only thing is if you dive (I do) the water is pretty cold so your in a wet suit & it's not as colorful as a tropical climate... One of the reasons I'd choose Hawaii...

My inlaws lived in Florida for 12 years. I got married at an outdoor wedding ( 25 years ago) in Vero Beach. It was over 100 in the shade and stupid high humidity..... me outside in a black tux...
I assume Georgia is similar?  Love Georgia though, very friendly people for the most part!

Yes, Georgia is the same. I grew up in Soouth Florida, so I know exactly what you're talking about. You probably lost 5 lbs. that day!

I'll take Florida also. Kissimmee maybe, then I could hang out at Mark's and drink his beer.    I also have family throughout the state. Warm weather, year around car scene, Mecum auction. Wow....maybe I should retire early!

I build Texan's vacation homes in Colorado.  One thing every Texan says to me is that their property tax's are out of control. 
I will pay 400 a year on property tax's but they will spend 4000 for the same size home and property per year. 

Texas has awesome stuff to do, but that property tax thing just kills it for me.  And for many of my customers who retire up here as they can not keep up with the property tax's in retirement.

I agree with 1wildR/T, hawaii for sure for Cali.  Spent almost 30 years of my life in california, born in long beach, grew up in Pismo Beach, lived in Chico for school, lived in San Diego in my 20s.  Been in omaha, nebraska for the last 3 years, and one thing I know for sure, I won't be moving back to california.  Money isn't the issue, I just can't stand the politics and too be honest, I can't stand 80% of the people there (cc & e-body forum members are exempt!  ).  Most of my friends and family are in Cali which is it's one redeeming factor for me, but the midwest has been amazing for my family, Omaha has phenomenal schools, and the midwest in general just has great people.  (for those of you unfamiliar, omaha isn't some bo-dunk town, its over million people in the greater Omaha area)I love the lifestyle here.   Ok im pulling the plug on this rant before i get even more worked up.....so yea, hawaii lol or austin Tx, maybe the carolinas
