That red car was restored and not properly by the look of it. If that was factory welded together it wouldn't have separated the front clip the way it did, I've seen some busted up Mopars back in the day and they didn't separate that way.

Incredible pictures.
I wonder if installing an after market frame or chassis such as Schwartz and the like make our car a little safer in a crash or would it matter?

There's not a car made that could withstand a hit from a tree like that...  But for that car to tear in half I expect it had hidden rust issues.... They weren't hidden after the crash...

I'd bet poor frame rail/inner fender replacement - cars don't come a part like that

The pistol grip and 4sp trans still look intact!
Bet that could still give up some good parts.

This thread reminds me of a scene from American Graffiti where Milner and Carol walk through "the graveyard of cars" ...

"That '71 Satty took out three trees at once ..."

"Three trees! Bet they got hurt!"

"Nah, other than getting a permanent rainbow shaped crease in his forehead from the hitting the steering wheel, he somehow walked away. But that Challenger over there, that's a different story. Hit a tree broadside and ripped it in half ..."

"In half! Holy cow!"

"Yeah, it was a really bad scene, they both went to the hospital with that one. They got banged up pretty bad. They're okay now but the passenger has a permanent "Challenger" tattoo across her forehead from smacking the emblem on the dashpad ..."

"I bet that hurt!"

"Yeah, but not as much as the pain of wrecking your Mopar ..."
Cheers!
Tom

Tis' better to have owned classic Mopars and lost than to have never owned at all (apologies to Alfred Lord Tennyson)
