Bought a used center console last summer and just got around to trying to put it in. Well it cracked in about 3 places, and it doesn't seem wide enough for the transmission hump. My Challenger is a 73, are the humps for a 70-71 more narrow?
I guess just threw away 100$ because it is toast now....

I'll just order a new one, but want to make sure I'm not missing something

When you say hump, are you referring to the four speed hump that the factory spot welded in? Either way, the auto tunnel and four speed humps should be same all four years.

Now the consoles vary from automatic to manual. For instance, plastic console material is cut away slightly at the bottom to make an auto console fit over a four speed hump. A manual console would fit either.

It's an automatic, it seems the console was a lot narrower then then transmission tunnel. Or I'm just missing something

Post a photo of your hump.  Do you have the correct brackets?

Here's a photo showing the automatic shifter/ console brackets that are needed. This is in a 72 Challenger.

Technically, the consoles just rest on top of the mounting brackets on top of the tunnel and hump so they should not touch the floor.

I could see a binding or breaking issue if someone tried forcing an auto console onto a manual floor hump as some material from the console needs to be trimmed away.

The consoles often rub against seats but its pretty light contact so the seats can slide forward and backward without interference.

Thanks for the pic Terry, now i don't have to fight taking a picture around the carpet - but ya that is exactly what mine looks like

Just FYI in the future when dealing with the plastics on the console and interior I have found after using various epoxy that plain old plumbers ABS glue reinforced with fiberglass on the back makes very strong repairs on these plastics.
