Hey guys,

I'm about to run my floor wiring and was wondering what you guys use if anything to cover the wiring running down the floor from the front to the rear?  Do you use the metal from AMD or something else or nothing at all?  This is for my 71 which isn't a concours car.  Any suggestions?

I have a '71 also that came with the original Floor Wiring Covering so of course used it and ran the new wiring underneath as is.
If I did not have that option probably would have run new wires with relatively thick covering or preferably in a plastic loom cover instead. A way cheaper option than paying for cover panels that will not be showing anyway especially for driver purposes.

A real heavy duty option especially you guys running trunk mounted batteries is electrical conduit. Moldable and bullet proof.

Just tried this stuff really really like it. This site has many types, full sleeve split sleeve, over rolled, pick your pleasure. I bought the split sleeve very easy to put on

I use welding cable which is heavily insulated & flexable then run it through the channel along the drivers side rocker to protect it , the rest is hidden under the rear seat where it would be very difficult to damage

I used split braided sleeving on all of my runs.

Are your factory shields missing? Those AMD ones are expensive for what they are. If your original shields are still there, you don't need to do anything. The harnesses already have a braided cover on them.

Daveh

My shields are gone I was even thinking about fabricating some thin aluminum as a replacement.

Cudakiller70

That would work just fine, nothing wrong with fabbing your own.

RUNCHARGER

Or cable clamp them along the rocker.

Mine fell off so I welded mine to some hinges and then the hinges to the floor.

Without those shields, doesn't that cause issues with carpet fitment? The shields create the inner slope of the rocker. I would think the rocker area would look weird without them there. Maybe not...

May be wrong but my understanding was they were on the driver side only to protect all the wiring because it only ran on the driver side not passanger side. The passenger side does not have them and the carpet fits fine. Unless the passenger side had a build in hump to make up the slope??

Mine seems to fit fine without. As mentioned, the passengers side does not have anything.
