1973 Challenger Gen 3 Hemi swap
« on: November 25, 2021, 06:42:17 PM »
I had a 1974 Challenger with a 5.7 Hemi and sold it back to the guy who started the build a little over a year ago after having the car for 4 1/2 years. I have decided to do a Hemi swap in my 1973 Challenger as it was just a 318 and I couldn't hurt the value. I have missed the modern hemi in my old Challenger so I have bought a 6.4 crate engine and will do the swap as time permits as I work a full time job. I'm going to put a overdrive automatic in it and dakota digital modern gauges which I had put in the 1974 while I had it. I'm going to sell the 360 and 727 transmission which were rebuilt when I restored the Challenger. Here is a picture of the 6.4 and the Challenger it will go in.

Very cool....I just bought an A41 Automatic from Silver Sport Transmissions for behind a 392 Hemi in a 70 Charger I'm doing....It's going to be an interesting change from all the manual transmissions everybody usually wants... https://shiftsst.com/blog/post/challenger-barracuda-1970-1974-perfectfit-kit.html

Keep a build thread going so we can all follow along... :cooldance:

I'm looking at the silver sport A41 automatic so I don't have to cut tunnel to make the 8 speed fit.

I'm looking at the stuff Holley offers for the Gen 3 swap but I'm not sure what engine controller and wiring harness I will go with.

The harness kit is back in stock at Chrysler, or I believe DYIHEMI has a version as well
