I'm working on a deal with the current owner of a 70 challenger convert.  It's an early production 318 car.  K5 with the orange interior which is super cool.  Not a lot of options.  I have videos of it driving and running and it all seems pretty decent.  If things line up I may be running out this weekend to get a closer look at it and possibly put money on it if its pretty legit.

Luggage rack, tips, gas cap, and passenger mirror were added I was told.  She has the original 318/904 and rear end.  The 3rd owner put a cam and a 4 bbl on the 318 and plumbed in the dual exhaust to the stock style dual tips.

I'm dealing with him on facebook which I'm having difficulty downloading the videos and other photos but I attached what I could.

From the videos and pictures the car seems pretty solid.  Just wondering if his asking is out of whack.  He wants $37k for it.

Any input is appreciated.

That looks like a pretty decent car that you could enjoy as is. If he will negotiate a bit on price it seems to be a decent deal to me, but I don't consider myself an authority on recent pricing.

I think any running driving rust free E-body convertible in the $30's is a great deal. I saw that one recently and really like it. Obviously try and get the best deal you can on it but even at $37k you're doing pretty well.

Thanks guys!

I'm waiting back to hear from him.  Hopefully I can move forward and make a deal.  We really don't need another car right now but my wife and I both agreed that these opportunities don't come around often and it is a car we have always wanted so what the hell we're going to go for it.

I reached out to him within a day of it being posted but it looks like I'm just a tad too late.  Fingers crossed though!     IF I get the thumbs up I will be in it tomorrow afternoon to verify and hopefully solidify a deal.  It will make a good partner to my k6 rallye!

Cool, looks similar to my convertible, FK5 with burnt orange interior but mines a 383.
There's a FK5 with burnt orange R/T 440 convertible around here too, if you are near Chicago we might end up swamped with FK5 challenger verts!
If nice, 30s seems reasonable.

Thanks,  That where I was leaning.  Hopefully I'm on the road tomorrow am to check it out.

Yeah, we have met before at Mopar's at the Park and at MCAN.  I've got almost a full album of just your vert!  I believe you have a k5 71 R/T as well.  I'd be lying if I said that your cars aren't an inspiration for us!  When I saw this car I thought immediately of yours!

Still on pins and needles here.  I supposedly will know by 3 today if its a go or not as he's waiting on his first offer to solidify.

3 k5 verts in the region is good for luck I believe!

Looks like some luck shined my way!  Heading our early tomorrow AM to get my eyes on it.  If it all works out I may have an overstuffed garage this winter!

I'll keep you guys posted!

Great, Not good to pass them up anymore. They just don't come up all that often these days.

CHeck the trunk, quarters and rockers for rust/bondo.

Top condition?

What does the engine compartment look like?  Hopefully not spray-bombed black.

Nice looking car, but I'd try to haggle it down some to low $30s if possible.

If you like it during inspection, don't overthink it. Just buy it. You probably won't regret it.

I bought my 71 Barracuda ragtop and it's turned out to be one of the most enjoyable Mopars I've ever owned. I paid 50k for mine 18 months ago and lots of folks thought I overpaid a little. I'm pretty sure I could get my money back if I sold it.

By the way, don't be tempted to turn your ragtop into a performance car. I was but glad I didn't. The 318 is silky smooth, very reliable and cool running, plus with the single muffler, it's very quiet. The soft suspension feels great on the highway. With the top down, you can't even hear the car. Makes for pleasant conversion with your passenger.

I agree, don't overthink it!
Thoroughly check it out, but that is a great price for an awesome car to just get in and go.

Well...Time to start a new thread in the Member Rides Section!

Thanks for all of the advice!  The 4AM wakeup and solid day of driving was well worth it.  Had an amazing day to get through the whole car.  I think I got a GREAT deal.  The car is very solid and in great condition.  The only item I noticed was the trunk pan was sprayed with rust encapsulator and the fuel tank is a little iffy.  A few bumps and wear items but overall I am extremely happy.  All items fell within the I can live with that category.  It comes with a full binder of pictures and receipts from the previous owners.  The 3rd owner was the primary one that held on to it for the most time.  The car was babied and it showed.  Top operation was good and the original top is in great shape.

The 318 fired and ran great.  Its got a 4bbl on it and duals so it sounds nice, but nothing radical in terms of power.  Just a solid and smooth driving car.

It was one of those things that I new when I was 100' away that I'm taking it home.

So after spending 2 hours going thru everything we shook on a deal and I gave him a down payment with the balance to come upon pickup.  I plan on getting her thanksgiving weekend with my wife who is the true winner here as it will likely be her car!  The kids are all fighting over which car they want to ride in!  Nobody wants to ride with Dad anymore!

Now it's time to shoe horn it into the garage!

What a difference a week makes in life!

Now for the pictures....
