What brake fluid do I have ?

How do you determine what brake fluid you have ? I didn't fill mine originally. I'm 90% sure that dot5 was used, but how do I know for sure ?

 I Imagine the same test would apply to dot3 as far as water mixing...

I thought DOT5 was mandated to be purple?  and DOT3&4 are amber.  :dunno:

It is somewhat of a purple pearl color when fresh, but ends up looking like all others..
