Have the 2 piece AMD floor
Left side extension is good
Right side extension is out and removed

Original floor out except for a lip that I left at the back, underneath the tail panel that is cut even w the cross brace.

Do I cut the spot welds for this last piece of the trunk floor outside and beneath the tail panel?

It looks like the indentations show up better inside the trunk.

Plan to cut the welds on the outside
Just want to make sure this is the best way to remove what is left

Thanks for your thoughts!

Cut on the piece you are not going to use / save.  Always try to save the good piece by not drilling or cutting through it if you can.

For a second I thought that was my car, but mine is orange. That's the job I'm in the middle of prepping and getting ready to install the trunk floor. I would like to replace the rear cross brace . As my car was rear ended over 40 years ago and not properly repaired now would be the best time. Question #1 does the trunk floor have a 90 degree lip, that the bottom of the tail panel gets welded to? or is it a separate 90  degree panel And question #2 what is the distance from the trunk floor to the bottom of the tail light opening on a 70 challenger. 340challconvert good job and keep us posted. Thanks

Thats what I did also, cut the lip from the outside, then there is welds down on the crossbar also, many. I ended up removing the crossbar and making a new one.
Second pict is my new floor going in.

I'd take a 1/8" drill and drill in the centre of all the spots I could get at. This will help locate them from either side and the 1/8" holes are easily welded in on the good panel. Are you using a Blair type cutter? They work well, just watch your speed and try to keep them even on the work as they can grab if unevenly applied and that usually knocks some of the teeth off them. The 1/8" holes also centre the cutter. I use 3/8" bits as the 5/16ths ones don't always cut the spot loose. A sharpened 1" cranked end scraper can also be your friend to drive between the pieces to pop the scrap piece off. Good luck!

RJ Would love to see some more pics on what you are working on.
I bought the two piece trunk floor (thinking it would be easier to fit in without removing more sheet metal)   There is an L shaped, 90 degree lip at the back of the new trunk floor that welds to the outside bottom of the tail light panel.
There is a 2 1/2 in distance from the front of the rear trunk cross member and the outside edge of the rear tail light panel. The spot welds from the new trunk floor and centered onto the rear of trunk cross member would be 2 1/4 inches. Hope this is helpful.
Interestingly, the trunk floor curves down slightly to meet the tail panel on the left and right sides.
Showing a pic of where my old trunk floor was welded to the outside of the tail panel.

Longer view of how the trunk floor curves to meet the tail panel.
