Dash frame and steering column used the same suede paint from the factory. Speaking about 1970 E-bodies.

Mr Lee

If your car steering column didn't come with the texture and you want to keep it original then I guess you can just match the color with whatever paint you want?
If you want the texture... I got mine from TCP Global.  I believe I researched the paint code beforehand and then ordered it from them.  It's Acrylic Lacquer and the finish is awesome.  Did the dash frame and steering column

Cody,  Which texture do you like best as being proper correct for a 1970 ?

I can appreciate all the different ways to achieve a similar finish as the factory used, but for my columns I prefer to use the same suede paint the factory used. That doesn't mean it's the best choice for everyone else, it's just what I like to used. I can respect the durabilty of powder coating or the efficiency of single part paint and each of those options have a good place in our hobby as alternative choices to the original suede which can be hard to apply.

So back to my original question regarding my 73 column, it sounds like they were originally a matt black finish out of the factory, not a suede finish; is that correct?

Burdar

Yes, I used SEM Trim Black. No texture in 73.

I believe that is correct....I very rarely come across any E Body column that has a tremendous amount of texture. :alan2cents:
I've taught you everything you know....but I haven't taught you everything I know....

Perfect, thanks gents.
Burdar was kind enough to let me know about the mat black a while back; was looking for confirmation from others (even though I know Burdar is right!) and also I'm curious when they stopped painting columns with the suede finish;I'm guessing 72?

For what it's worth, I can also do the correct finish for your column in powder, I have that figured out.

I appreciate the offer Hemicuda; when I get the steering column torn apart I'll contact you

Sure, I just finished an interior for blucuda last week.

My interior pieces turned out looking great.  I have them packaged and put away, otherwise I would send pics showing off the quality work.  You will not be disappointed.

Thx for that Scott, I love sharing or work to good people like yourself.   Sorry it took so long to get the parts back to you.  They came in to late Thursday afternoon so I couldn't get them done until Thursday night and ship them back the next day on Friday.    :D  :drinkingbud:

@HEMICUDA Care to share what color/texture/manufacturer powder you're using? I'd like to coat my column over the winter and am exploring some options. Any input is appreciated!
