Outstanding and detailed replies. This is the kind of info I am after and I deeply appreciate it.

"I'm not a drag racing fan, so the constant noise all day also annoys me"

The sound of Mopar Muscle cars running down the dragstrip annoys you?  I've heard of people like you but I didnt think they mixed in our circles. Yeah, the Nats isnt a place for people like yourself. There's no Gluten free pizza, No vegan hot dogs, no gender inclusive restrooms. They'll also be fossil fuels being burnt excessively by these Mopar muscle cars. I expect the carbon footprint to be immoral.  I'll be there!

In my area Mopar events are almost nonexistent. If I lived fairly close to the Nats I would attend even if it isn't perfect. We'll really be complaining when all the events are gone.

Yea, I don't like the smell either mixed with 100* temperature, just gives me a headache.
I have no issues with pizza, hot dogs and girls in the men's room....Although at the Nats I'm sure they're all pretty nasty.

Keep your personal digs off of this web site and enjoy the show.... :drinkingbud:

The highlight of the show, for me, is the burnout contest.  2017 photos:

Back in 1998 I drove my 73 Challenger from Denver to Columbus for the Mopar Nats. Me and my wife(then girlfriend) camped on Buckeye Lake for 4 days. I still talk about it to this day. Epic trip. Love the fact that there's a dragstrip, but as mentioned before no hotels/lodging for miles around National Trail Raceway. At the time this was Mopar Mecca-nothing compared. Never been to Carlisle, so I can't comment, although no drag racing would be a downside for me. I met people from all over the world (Sweden, Russia, Australia) at this show-if you can go, do it at least once.

@bennydodge great advice and cool story. Point taken.
I still can't believe we fit a 2-room cabin tent and all of our crap in an E-body, no way that would happen now lol....

I put my Nats credentials in my glove box a couple days ago in anticipation of the trip. :burnout:  I've been going since 1985 and will continue until they quit having it.  There's a show field, premium show and display cars, a large swap meet, drag racing, and nightlife.  Hard to beat all that.  Carlisle is better organized, has more show cars, and an awesome swap.  But there's stuff at the Nats you won't see anywhere else that definitely makes it worth the trip.

I will say this about the Columbus show. It was nice to watch the drag racing, and this was the first time I ever saw green or red smoke at a burn-out contest.

This was 2009, but I was not fond of how they would shoe horn the show cars in there. The price of Columbus is twice Carlisle too.

Two very different shows for sure. At Carlisle they group all the cars by class and at the nats there is no separation, their all everywhere. Golf carts at the nats can be a bit of a pain. Drag racing at the nats is great because you can take a break from all the walking and sit for a bit. Carlisle seems to have more food. I think there is more of a "fun" atmosphere at the nats whereas at the Carlisle I get more of a "business" feel. All that said I enjoy both and if you have never been to the nats I don't think you will be dissapointed.

I wonder if there is anybody who's ONLY ever gone to Carlisle and then has attended the Nats ? and what their thoughts of the Nats were ?

I agree the Nats should be attended at least once.

I've been going to Carlisle for over 20 years before I went to the Nats for the first time. Always heard it wasn't that good and it's not as clean as Carlisle. I've only been there twice in the last five years or so and yes it isn't Carlisle and if it wasn't 10 hours away from me I'd go every year simply because it is different and I'll see different things. If you have the time go before that disappears like Englishtown! ( That's a whole different story)
