A66 code 1970 340 Challengers

I only wish I knew how many miles were on it! Either 63k, or 163k.

Everyone's guess is 63 "well used" miles. I called Renton Dodge and they pretty much laughed when I asked if they still had any records for it. None of the maintenance records that I have lists the miles. Sucks! It is much more unlikely that it has 163k miles.

It's a '69 CA build. Yep, I can upload these files in higher def. Some of them may have a date imprint, need to relook when I get home.

I did remove the door edge moldings a few weeks ago. Glad I did because I stopped one area from going past some minor surface rust. Got them in safe keeping. Wondering if that was a factory option or not.

When I bought my Challenger it was advertised as 50K miles but by the amount of wear on the main set of keys I'm sure it was around at least once. The amount of play in the door hinge pins was another clue.

Yea. I'm always looking for clues. If you saw how much the original paint shines right now...you'd think no way it has 163k! Heads have been swapped out and the water pump was replaced. A couple of rust spots contained on the trunk area, but that's it. Came with poly tires (not the original ones). I know that it was parked since 2001. So if it had 163k miles, it would have gotten them from 1970 to 2001, which is very possible..but all on poly tires? That's would be 5,258 miles a year. The AM radio chrome keys are flawless. It had the original windshield on it too with two rock chips and a wiper scratch. An original windshield on a 163k mile car....that's a long lasting shield!

Transmission guy couldn't remark on how many miles the trany looks like it had, but he said that it "looked very good."

The driver's side door lower hinge was loose/sloppy so I got it rebuilt. The passenger's side hinge is very tight.

Driver's seat has a fair amount of wear, but passenger's seat didn't have much (one small rip). No cracks on the dash. Carpet may even be original and looks good. Rear seats/headliner are A+ shape. Some of the door panels are faded, so it did get a fair amount of sun...but I'd image a 63k mile that was parked out in the sun continually with these pre-UV panels would probably get faded too?

Hard to know, hard to tell.

Is it worth doing a Carfax on it or is that a newer car thing...

Noticed that an early December 1969 California build had no decals or metal emblems on the hood yet!
DetMatt1 over at FEBO has sets of reproduction decals for sale if you want to add them.  Your car probably did come with them.

They are really RT cars with a JH code; the RT hood, the HD handling package-same as the RT, and some with the 15" wheels and the standard bumble bee stripe.
I was lucky that mine came with the rallye dash and collapsible spare. The small blocks also handled better with the factory BB torsion bars up front. 
Owned a number of RT's over the years, I'm just an A66 "fan".

Can you please tell me, is A66 the same spec as an R/T, just with a small block engine?

Also you mention Rallye dash.  Was this standard?  Mine has a standard dash and a rectangular Challenger badge on the dash.  My car was made late 1970, so was wondering if they used the 71 dash for later cars?

The "rectangular Challenger badge" was ONLY found on 1971-1974 Challengers. ALL 1970 Challengers had the "Challenger script" on the dash.

Maybe the dash pad was swapped for a newer one at some stage?  But it looks as old as the car with cracks etc.  And the vin is stamped into it dash and body cowl.  Very odd.

E body dash pads were commonly cracked in the 70's... So one getting swapped isn't surprising... There were allot more 71-74 Challengers & Cuda's being parted out then 70's plus it you went to the dealer while replacements were still available you would get a 71-74 or later a pad with no logo at all....

Back in the 80's good 70 Challenger dash pads were a rare commodity that often carried a hefty price tag.....

Well those are completely wrong, so your dash pad has been changed at one time 1000%
