I hope I did not miss this information somewhere in the reference section, but does anyone have a list or guide for what parts get plated what and what parts get painted certain finishes.

I guess what I am asking, is when sending parts out to the plater, does anyone have a list of what all parts (as a group) should go out at the same time to save on trips?

Same for painted or powder coated parts on groups by color finish/color shade?
Hope that made sense.

Most nut & bolts get Phosphate. No powder coating on Mopars. Painted bolts are usually phosphate before painting. Some get Clear zinc. Can't find the list right now.

If your trying to do a restoration  on your car and DO IT right. I recommend buying the fastener reference manual from MMC Detroit. It will help you  in every way possible.

:iagree:   This is a must. It won't tell you everything but it will tell you what fasteners go where and what finish they should be. Expensive book but well worth it. If you are only going to do this one car you could easily sell it for some good money once your done with it.  :alan2cents:

I agree. For those of us that aren't in the business, the MMC Detroit guides are very helpful. The MMC Detroit ICCA judging guide has detail pretty much every part, marking and finish of the entire car.

The last time I suggested someone buy the fastener guide, I was told that it was out of print and not available.  Has that changed?

:iagree: They are very helpful.  Most engine compartment fasteners are silver/clear zinc.  Some are (yellow) zinc dichromate.  The phospated fasteners are mostly ones that get painted but there are exceptions.  Ask specific questions and those of us with fastener guides can look it up for you.

Basically, the small bolts that hold the different components on the firewall are silver zinc.  The three nuts that hold the heater box to the firewall vary by year.  Some are silver zinc and others are yellow.  Look at yours closely(on the back side) to see what they originally were.  Engine fasteners are usually phosphate as well as accessory fasteners like water pump, alternator and PS bolts.  Some bolts on top of the engine that hold the coil bracket, distributor exc. are zinc.  The UCA cam bolts are phosphate.  Ask specifics to get the most accurate answer.

Is it just one book I need from them or multiple books?

I was just on the site, never knew it existed before, but I will be ordering one.
